Armstrong, John G. 157th Ohio National Guard

Unit organized May 16, 1864, for 100 days sevice, under Co. George McCook. Order to Washington City and the to Fort Delaware, where it guarded Rebel prisoners the reminder of time. Mustered out September 26, 1864. Dyers compendium says Organized at Camp chase, Ohio mustered in May 15, 1864, mustered out Sept. 2, 1864 ,lost 10 enlisted men.

Brown, Edward Jackson Edward Jackson Brown, B: Abt. 1829 D:1908 (buried Hopewell Cemetery), Son of: John and Catherine Brown

Edward served in the Mexican and Civil Wars. During the Mexican War, he enlisted at the age of 17 years old, as part of the Steubenville Greys. They organized as Company 1 of the 3rd Regiment of the Ohio Volunteers to represent Jefferson County. Edward lived in Rush Run at the time. The Greys were officially established in June of 1846. Capt. George W. McCook headed them. They served in the Army of the Rio Grande under General Zachary Taylor. The unit mustered out on June 21, 1847 after being highly commended by their commanding officer.

Edward enlisted as a Private on August 11, 1862 at the age of 33. He enlisted in Company B, 52nd Infantry, Regiment Ohio. He mustered out on June 3, 1865 in Washington, DC. The 52nd Infantry marched in the review before the President and Cabinet during the final muster-out.

Cope, Hiram J. Served as Captain of Company G, 157th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Enlisted on 2 May 1864, at the age of 26. Height 6'3", a fair complexion, light hair, and blue eyes. Middle name purported to be Holmes, but as yet unverified.

Born Aug 1837 in Nottingham Twp, near Cadiz, Harrison Co. Died 14 Jun 1907, in Mansfield, Richland, Co., and buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery ( between Bloomingdale & Smithfield) - no marker.

COX, Elisha Co H 157, Ohio Inf, private 2 May 1864, mustered out 2 Sep 1864 Born 1836 in Jefferson Co. Married Nancy DUNLAP Mar 1862 with whom he had three children. He died in 1896 and is buried in Smithfield Cemetery.

HAUSER, Tinlis From his pension application

Enrolled 19 August, 1862, as a shoemaker, in theUS Army, age 23.Served in Co. G 52d Infantry, Ohio.- Taken to hospital at Louisville, Kentucky, on 1 October 1863. A medical assistant reports he heard the doctor say that he (Tinlis) "could not possibly live because of tyfoid (sic) and heart disease." - Hospitalized in Cincinnati and at Camp Denison until his discharge on 23 March 1863.

- About 1903, after about 40 years in Iowa, moved to Oklahoma, living in El Reno, Lawton, and finally in Cement, Caddo County. He lived in Clinton Co., Iowa, where he married Lucy USHER in 1866. They also lived in Benton Co., Iowa. (From marriage records in Clinton Co., and census records in Benton Co.) From census records of 1850 and 1850, Salem Twp., Jefferson County, we learn that his father was David HOUSER.

Mona Houser

KINSEY, Oliver C. 114th Ohio Infantry. He was in Co. I. My grt-grtgrandfather, Oliver C. Kinsey, enlisted in the 114th Ohio Infantry on August 22, 1862. He was in Co. I. Wounded in the leg at Thompson's Hill, he was moved from hospital to hospital until his release in 1864. His pension form lists him as a farmer before his enlistment.
He was born in Jefferson County in 1827 and after the war moved to Monroe County, Missouri. He died there September, 9, 1901. He was a potter by trade.;

Maple, William Served in the NJ Militia during the Revolutionary War, later removing to Jefferson Co. Ohio between 1797 and 1803 b. about 1740, Middlsex Co., NJ; d. 1812, Jefferson Co., Oh; buried on hill above Port Homer, grave location now unknown. Submitted by: T. Grant Maple
Maple, David Served in the NJ Militia during the Revolutionary War, later removing to Jefferson Co. Ohio between 1797 and 1803 b. about 1735, Middlsex Co., NJ; d. about 1820,Carroll Co., OH; probably buried Carroll Co., OH. Megrail, Corporal Lindley H. Co. K 157th Ohio National Guard 100 day enlistment ended September 10, 1864 Certificate of Honorable Service signed on December 15, 1864 by Abraham Lincoln and Edwin M. Stanton at the executive mansion Washington City. Served at Camp Douglas and another POW camp. Submitted by Rex W. Liggett

Milliron, Solomon private of 1st Lieut. Joseph McKee's Company (D) 126th O.V.I. enlisted August 20, 1862, to serve three years or during the war. He was discharged June 25, 1865, at or near Washington, D.C. He was born in Pennsylvania in March of 1821, and was a blacksmith before and after the war. He died sometime after the 1910 census, when he was age 89 and living with his grandson, Solomon Milliron, in Beaver County, Pa. He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Todd's Old Part, in Industry, Beaver Co., Pa. There is a G.A.R. marker on his grave, but no dates. Submitted by Cookie Sisco
