Welcome To

CLARENDON COUNTY,

SOUTH CAROLINA!

Your Clarendon County Connection

Welcome to Clarendon County. My name is Cindy Ridgeway Parker. I volunteered to coordinate the  Clarendon County, South Carolina USGenWeb homepage in 1996 because all of my roots go back to the original settlers of Clarendon County. I was born in, grew up in, and I live in Sumter County, less than 20 miles from where my ancestors were farmers and then planters from as early as 1740. My parents, my grandparents, their parents, and on back were all born in Clarendon County which was at one time, part of Old Sumter District. My Clarendon County ancestors all moved inland from the low country and coastal regions of South Carolina before the Revolutionary War, having settled in South Carolina from as early as 1680.

If you have Clarendon County roots, then I might be your cousin. You may visit me visit me via my personal homepage at http://www.palmettostateroots.org, where you will find the basics of my personal genealogy. I am quite willing to share what I have on the surnames that I research, but please understand that I am an amateur genealogist, researching my own family lines. I don't research other surnames or do other outside research.

"Each smallest act of kindness reverberates across great distances and spans of time, affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit was the source of this good echo, because kindness is passed on and grows each time it's passed, until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away....." This Momentous Day, H.R. White

Let's continue our circle of sharing.

About the USGenWeb and the SCGenWeb Projects

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual was found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. The SCGenWeb Project is an extension of the KYGenWeb Project. This project is now nationwide. The USGenWeb Project is the the largest volunteer effort on the Internet. Its growth and utility depend upon you---the user.

The USGenWeb Project and the SCGenWeb Project are a non-commercial, all volunteer organization.

You were visitor  to stop by Clarendon County since September 1, 1996.
