Will of SAMUEL RATCLIFF SENIOR

IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. I, Samuel Ratcliff of Craven County in South Carolina, St. Marks Parish, being in perfect health of body and memory, thanks be given to God: calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing it is appointed once, for all men to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God, that gave it, and my body to be buried in a decent Christian burial, at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate whereas it has pleased God to bless me in, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

First, I give and bequeath to Samuel Butler, my loving grandson, one hundred acres of land, with my dwelling house and plantation wherein I now dwell.

Also I give and bequeath to my grandson, Samuel Butler, and John Butler, all my moveable estate, with all my household goods and chattles to be equally divided between Samuel Butler and John Butler, after my death.

Likewise, I give unto my well beloved wife, her lifetime in my plantation, whom I likewise constitute, make, and ordain the sole Executrix, with my grandson, Samuel Butler, executors, executor of this my Last Will and Testament

And I do hereby uttterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former testament, wills, legacies, bequests and Executors by me in any wise before named, willed, and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming, and no other to be my Last Will and Testament, in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this twenty-ninth day of July in the year of our Lord, One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventy-two.
