WILL OF JAMES ARMSTRONG

State of South Carolina

In the name of God Amen- I James Armstrong ofSalem County Sumter District and State aforesaid. being Sick and weakin body, but of perfect mind and memory, calling to mind mymortality, and knowing that Death is the inevitable lot of all men,do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament--- Principally andfirst of all I resign my Soul to God who gave it, and my body to thedust, to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at thedirection of my Executors hereafter to be named and as touching suchworldly Estate as it hath pleased God to blefs me with, I give andbequeath in manner following---

Item I give and bequeath to my Son James Armstrongtwo negroes Frank and Mariah now in his actual pofsefsion---

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter MaryGordon two negroes (Viz) Moses and Ava, which have already beendelivered to her-

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter MargaretAnderson, two negroes (Viz) Jack and Lenah which She now has inPofsefsion-

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter ElizabethFrierson two negroes (Viz) Prince and Jane now in her pofsefsion, andalso one other negro Girl named Mary Ann.

Item I give and bequeath to my Son in-law JosephWay, one negro named Judy & her Children which s.d Negro wasdelivered to my Daughter Sarah Way, in her lifetime and now inpofsefsion of the Said Joseph Way---

Item It is my Will and desire that the two negroesbequeathed to my deceased Wife by her father Henry Montgomery, (Viz)Riner and Jane, and their increase (Viz) Brister, Derry, Minder,Harry. Sue. little Riner, little Brister, and little Jane, be equallydivided between, my Son, James Armstrong, my Daughter Mary Gordon, myDaughter Margaret Anderson, my Daughter Elizabeth Frierson, and thethre children of my Deceas'd daughter Sarah Way, Viz Mary Dick. SarahWay, and Elizabeth Way, the Said three Children of my Deceaseddaughter to have among them Jointly, a share equal to one of my ownChildren above mentioned. and I also give and bequeath to each of mysaid Grand Daughters above mentioned, ten Dollars to be paid out ofmy Estate by my Executors---

Item I give and bequeath all my lands to my Soninlaw James Anderson and my Son inlaw David Frierson, to be equallydivided between them, to them and their Heirs forever.

Item It is my Will and pleasure that All my Estateof what kind soever, not already disposed, and particularly mentionedin the above bequests, be equally divided, between my Son JamesArmstrong, my Son inlaw Moses Gordon, my Son inlaw James Anderson andmy Son inlaw David Frierson to them and their Heirs forever

Item I do hereby nominate, Ordain, Constitute andappoint, my three Sons in law (Viz) Moses Gordon. James Anderson andDavid Frierson Executors of this my last Will and Testament,renouncing and disanulling, all former or other Will, or wills. andrattifying and confirming, this and this only to be my last Will andTestament, in witnefs whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Sealthis twenty third day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousandeight hundred and six, and thirtieth Year of the Independence of theUnited States of North America--
