Will of Rachel Baker

 

I Rachel Baker the relict of Thomas Baker Deceasedbeing of sound mind abut weak in the body and calling to mind theuncertainty of life and being desirous to dispose of all such wordilyestate as it hath pleased god to bless me with , do make and ordainthis my last will in manner following. Thai is to say I givebequeath and devise to my son D. R. F. Baker my share in a certainhouse and lot in Sumterville which formerly belonged to my latehusband, my Negro man mulatto Sam and a portrait of my father thelate Dr. Richard Furman. To my daughter Maria B. Taylor ife of JohnTaylor I give and bequeath the following Negroes viz Candace and Dickand a certain chest of Drawers standing in my chamber. To my sondThomas M. Baker I give and bequeath all my interest in the landcaleed PonPon tract which belonged to my last husband likewise thefollowing Negroes viz Dinah and her son William Polydove, bully, oldkate, Joe, Ammaretta, and Mollie, a bed also my bookcase and my shreof the stock of hosses and mules, cows, hogs, etc. I give nadbequeath to my daughter Mary P. jackson wife of Charles C. Jackson myresidence called Woodville and funriture attached thereto with theexecption of the above named chest of drawers and bookcase. Ilikewise bequeath to the said Mary the following Negroes viz oldCharles, Susan and her child and Lill and her son Joe. I give andbequeath to my granddaughter Gulielma F. Baker the following Negroesviz Emma and Flaudes. And lastly I do constitute Thomas M. Baker andCharles C. Jackson executors of the my last will and testament thetestimony whereof I have herunto set my hand and affixed my seal thisday of September anno domoni on thouseand eight hundred and fortyfour.
