WILL OF RICHARD BENBOW

 

I Richard Benbow of Saint Marks Parrish-Craven-County in the Stateof South Carolina, Planter, being of

perfect Mind and Memory (Blessed be God) do make this my last willand Testament in manner and Form

following,

IMPRIMIS It is my will that all my just debts and funeral chargesshall be paid by my Executor Executrix

hereafter named within some short time after my decease.

 

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my loving Wife Sarah Benbow herliving on my Plantation or with my Children

during her widowhood.

 

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my loving son John Benbow myPlantation that tract of land laying and being in

Saint Marks Parrish Craven-County in the neighborhood wherein Inow live containing two hundred Acres

adjoining lands of John Castles and John Daniels to have his Heirsassigns forever.

 

ITEM I give and bequeath all and singular my goods, chattels,Negroes and my tract of land whereas it now

lies containing (Torn out in original will) hundred acres after myloving daughter Sarah shall attain the age of

eighteen years (not eligible in original will) my three youngestchildren shall be sufficiently educated and of

present made, unto my loving daughters, Susannah Huggins and MaryBenbow, Elizabeth Benbow, Frank

Benbow and my beloved Son Adam Benbow, 10 men were (not eligibleon original will) to be equally divided

among them by my Executor and if either of my children shouldchance to die it shall be equally divided

among the surviving children. Executrix herein after named-and itis my will that my estate both real and

personal shall remain together where it now is and in no wise beremoved nor divided until my said loving

daughter Sarah shall attain the said age of eighteen yearsnevertheless if my Executor and Executrix herein

after name together with my friend Wm Thomas Newman and my lovingbrother Power Benbow, (Whom I

nominate as Trustees to my loving children in case any disputeshould arise) shall judge it expedient they may

sell my Tract of land wherein I now love for Negroes and maysuffer a small part of my Estate to be removed a

little distance. And lastly-I nominate and appoint my loving SonAdam Benbow Executer and my Loving

Daughter Mary Benbow Executrix of this my last will andTestament-utterly revoking disannulling and

disallowing all former wills and Bequests by me heretofore made orgranted satisfying and confirming this

and no other to be my last will and Testament- IN WITNESS whereofI have hereunto set my hand and seal

this twenty sixth day of September in the Year of our Lord onethousand seven hundred and Eighty Two
