WILL OF JAMES CONYERS JUN.R

 

In The Name of God Amen. I James Conyers Jun.r ofCamden District in the State of So. Carolina (Gent.) being in healthand Perfect Memory, Thank God for it. But calling to mind theCertainty of Death and the Uncertainty of the Time thereof; Thinkbest to make this my Last Will and Testament, in the Manner and formfollowing. That is to say first and Principally, I Recommendmy Soulto God the Creator Thereof; hoping for Salvation, by the Merits of myLord and Savior Jesus Christ. And as touching such Worldly EstateWherewith it hath pleased God to Blefs me, I give Devise and Disposeof The Same, in the Manner and form following--- Imprimus I give andBequeath to my Dearly beloved Wife Susannah, immediately on myDicease, Any two Negroes of my property, which She Shall Choose, toRemain with her during her Widowhood, and No Longer, And at herMarriage, shall Return to my Estate, and be Disposed of As hereafterMentioned. Also I give to my said Wife Susannah One Third part of myEstate, together with The Use of said Negroes And the liberty ofliving and planting on my Plantation during her Widowhood. And Also,a Bed and furniture, two Horses and a Womans Saddle; (The Horses tobe of her own Choise), which last Articles is not to return to myEstate.

Item. I give and Bequeath to my Eldest Son John,One Third part of my Estate, And it is my Will, that my said SonJohn, shall be sent to School at Eight Years Old, And Continue atSchool Till he is fit to be sent to the Colledge, where he is to beSent, if my Executors (hereafter Named) finds his part of my EstateSufficient to Support him there.

Item. I give and Bequeath to my Youngest SonJames, One Third part of my Estate; and it is my Will my said SonJames shall be sent to School at Eight years old, and there Continue,till he is Master of the Languages, And then be Initiated into theContinental Army, if a Comifsion can be Obtained for him.

Item. I give and Bequeath to my said Son James, mySmall Sword if the same may be found After my Dicease.

Item. I give and Bequeath all the lands I nowpofsefsed of, to be Equally Divided Between, my said two Sons Johnand James.

Item. It is my Will all my Just Debts may be paid,as soon as my estate is Sold, which shall be, as soon as Convenientafter my Dicease, and the Money arising therefrom, be put to InterestExcept my Wife's Third part, which She is to Receive, immediately Andas touching the two Negroes, which I have left my Wife during herWidowhood; it is my Will, they shall be, (with their Ifsue if any) beSold, or Divided Equally, between my Wife and two Sons aforesaid,Immediately After her Marriage, and Not before. Lastly I Do appointmy well Beloved Wife Susannah, Executrix (During her Widowhood and noLonger), And Daniel Conyers and John Anderson, and Thomas OsbornEsq.r and James Davis; Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Affixed my sealthis 19th day of February 1700.
