WILL OF ELIZABETH COPPLEY

 

In The Name of God Amen. I Elizabeth Coppley of St Marks parishin the state of South Carolina, planter, being in a sick and lowcondition having perfect memory calling to mind the certainty ofdeath and the uncertainty on time thereof think best and most properto make this my last will and testament in the manner and formfollowing that is to say first and principally first I recommend mysoul to God the Creator thereof and hoping for salvation by andthrough the merits of my Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ and as touchingsuch worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God in this life tobless me I give, devise and dispose of the same in the mannerfollowing---------------------------------

 

Item: I will that all my funeral charges and just debt be firstpaid and discharged by my Executors hereafter named out of my Estate.

 

Item: I give and bequeath to my eldest daughter, Catherine, onefifth part of my personal Estate, except one hundred and seventy fivepounds currency to be disposed as hereafter directed to be paid toher at the age of eighteen years, or day of marriage.

 

Item: I give and bequeath to my oldest son, Robert, one fifthpart of my personal Estate, except one hundred and seventy fivepounds currency to be disposed of as hereafter directed to be paid tohim at the age of twenty one years, or day of marriage.

 

Item: I give and bequeath to my second son, Ely, one fifth partof my personal Estate to be paid to him at the age of twenty oneyears, or day of marriage.

 

Item: I give and bequeath to my third son, Patrick, one fifth ofmy personal Estate to be paid to him at the age of twenty one years,or day of marriage.

 

Item: I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter, (left blank),one fifth of my personal Estate to be paid to her at the age ofeighteen years, or day of marriage.

 

Item: I give and bequeath the three hundred and fifty pounds tobe divided out of my daughter Elizabeth (crossed out, and the nameCatherine typed above it) and my son James (crossed out, and the nameRobert typed above it) as before excepted in manner and formfollowing that is to sayÉfifty pounds currency to my son Ely, onehundred pounds currency to my son Patrick and two hundred poundscurrency to my youngest daughter and that to be levied on my threeyoungest children at the discretion of the Executors.

 

Lastly, I do appoint James Frierson, Francis Lefasane and HughWatsin Executors of my last will and testament and do declare this tobe my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto setmy hand and Seal this Twentieth (crossed out and Seventeenth writtenabove it) Day of January, one thousand, seven hundred and eightyfive.
