WILL OF SYLVESTER DUNN

 

In the Name of God Amen: I Sylvester Dunn Sen. ofSalem County, State of South Carolina, Planter, being sick & weakin body, but of perfect mind & memory, thanks be given unto Godtherefor, and calling to mind the mortality of my body, & knowingthat it is appointed unto all men once to die; do therefore make& ordain this to be my last will & testament: That is to say:First and principally I give & recommend my Soul into the handsof God who gave it, in sure & certain hopes of the Resurrection,& my Body I commit to the Earth to be buried in decent Christianburial at the discretion of my Executors hereafter to be named; &for such worlly good things as God hath been pleased to blefs me within this life, I give bequeath, & dispose of in the followingmanner & Form: Imprimis. I will & desire that all my Lawfuldebts be paid, in manner hereafter directed.

Item: I give & bequeath to my beloved wifeJannet, Seven Negroes, Viz: Tony, Carolina, Bet (Sister to Carolina)Sara, Cate & Terry & Hilander also my whole Stock of Cattle,sheep & hogs, all the household & kitchen furniture withoutexception, together with her Saddle & bridle during her naturallife, also the use of the Plantation & Plantation tools: And,after her decease the whole of the afore said property to be equallydivided amongst my three sons, Roger, Henry, & Sylvester.

Item I give & bequeath unto my Son inlaw JoelDubose three pounds; & no more, to be paid him by my Executors atthe expiration of two Years after my decease.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my Son inlaw JohnDouglafs, & to my daughter Sarah, Wife of said John, twenty fiveShillings each & no more as their full share of my Estate, to bepaid them in two years after my decease.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my son in LawRobert Roberts, & to my daughter Agnefs, wife of said Robert,twenty five Shillings each as their full share of my Estate, to bepaid them in two years after my decease.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my GrandsonSylvester Dunn Roberts, a tract of two hundred acres of Land on Stonyrunn on which Robert Roberts now lives, to inherit at the decease ofhis mother Agnefs Roberts.

Item: I give & bequeath unto my Grandchildren( the ifsue of my daughter Agnefs Roberts) Six Negroes Viz: Lucy,Cate, Jude, Mingo, Jack & Hagor: and their future increase: to beequally divided amongst my said grand-children & as the aforesaid five negroes are now in the Pofsefsion of my Daughter Agnefs. aslent to her by me, I exprefsley direct, that her Ifsue, my saidGrandchildren, may not inherit their share thereof till after herdecease.---

Item: I give & bequeath unto my GrandChildren,the Ifsue of my Daughter Sarah Douglafs, Six Negroes Viz etc. Manda,Charlotte & child born last night Cesar, Young march, & Sam:& their future increase; to be equally divided amongst my saidGrandChildren, and as the aforesaid five negroes are now in thepofsefsion of my said daughter Sarah, as lent to her by me; Iexprefsly direct, that her ifsue my said Grandchildren, may notinherit their share thereof till after her decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Son Sylvester, myRifle Gun, Shot moulds & Spoon moulds at my Decease.

Item: I will and desire that One Acre Square ofthe Land where burials of my family have hitherto been made, beappropriated to that use for Ever.

Item: It is my Will & desire that after all myaforesaid bequeath & Legacies are paid, that my lawful debts befirst paid out of the remainder of my personal Estate & thatafterwards my whole Real Estate (except the Acre above excepted)& the remaining part of my personal Estate: be equally dividedamongst my three sons, Roger, Henry, & Sylvester: Observing thatthe Land on which Sylvester Dunn Jun.r now resides, be secured to himas part of his part of my Real Estate; and the two negroes Jack &Lucy & their future increase till the time of my decease; be alsoconsider'd as a part of his part of my personal Estate.

Lastly: I do hereby constitute, make, ordain &appoint, Janet Dunn Executrix, & Roger Dunn, Henry Dunn, &Sylvester Dunn, Executors of this My last will & Testament: Anddo hereby revoke & disannul all & every other Will or Willsbequest or bequests by me heretofore made, declaring this & thisonly to be my last Will & Testament.
