WILL OF JOHN GREENING

In the name of God amen, I John Greening of SumterDistrict and State of south Carolina planter, being in perfecthealth, mind, and memory, thanks be to God, do make & ordain thismy last will and Testament, wrote with my own hand in manner and formfollowing. Viz I do will and bequeath unto my beloved wife MaryGreening the following three negroes Sarah her son July &daughter Nelly, horse and chair bed and furniture to her and herheirs and assigns for ever;........Item, I will and bequeath unto mysons as follows Wade Horace Greening, Eldridge Swepson Greening andJohn James Greening, when either marries or arrives to age twenty oneyears old three negroes between the age of twelve and twenty years.Good horse and saddle, three cows and calves, bed and furniture toeach.ии. Item, I will and bequeath unto my son Rufus WilliamGreening, four negroes between the age of twelve and twenty yearsold, two of which negroes I wish to be boys and bound with him towhat trade he may best like at the age of seventeen, and be his attwenty one years old which will be the time of his freedom, goodhorse and saddle three cows and calves bed and furniture all to bedelivered at the time he is twenty one years old or marries......Item, I will and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth AnnGreening when she marries or arrives to age eighteen years old, threenegroes between twelve and twenty years old, a good horse three cowsand calves bed and furniture ......... Item, I will and bequeath untomy daughter Mary Whitehead Greening when she arrives to the age offifteen years old three negroes between twelve and twenty years old,a good horse three cows & calves bed andfurniture..............

Item, I will and bequeath unto my daughter AmandaPoleen Greening three negroes between the age of twelve and twentyyears old, horse three cows and calves, bed andfurniture........

Item, It is my will and desire that in case mywife should be pregnant at the time of my death, that the child shallshare equal, with Wade, Eldridge, John, Elizabeth, Mary and AmandaGreening both real and personal property,.......

Item, It is my will that all my lands in thisstate be sold for the purpose of paying my debts, and that a tract atthe Discretion of my Executors be bought for the use of my Family,and to work my Negroes in until my daughter Mary Whitehead Greeningbecomes fifteen years old, then those that have not received theirlegacy as above named to receive it, and the remainder to be equallydivided amongst my children without a sale of the personalproperty,

Item, should my wife marry, it is my will that shereceive Sarah July, & Nelly horse and chair bed and furniture inlieu of Dowry .........

Item, It is my desire that should my Executorsafter selling my lands find it actually necessary to dispose of moreproperty for the purpose of paying just debts, that they sell Mastera Blacksmith, Long Bob & wife Abigail

Item, My will is that my property be kept togetherfor the supporting of my family and Educating my children, until anymay marry then they may receive their legacy and have no furthersupport from the estate until final division when all the land mustbe sold and divided amongst my children equal.

Lastly I do will ordain and constitute my belovedwife Mary Greening Executrix during her widowhood, Wade H Greening,and Clark Taylor of Georgia my lawful Executors, of this my last willand testament; In witness where unto I set my hand and seal thisseventh day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eighthundred and fifteen........
