WILL OF NAOMI HAMPTON

 

In the name of God, amen:

I Naomi Hampton, being severely afflicted in body,but of sound mind, do make this my last Will and Testament in mannerand form following, that is to say; First. I give, bequeath anddevise to my two grand children Joseph H. and Mary Sylvester, all mylands, real estate, to be equally divided between them.---

Secondly. I give, bequeath and devise to my sonHenry Jones three hundred dollars, to my brother Noel Vaughan threehundred dollars, and to Elizabeth Spears, relict of Mason Spearesdeceased, three hundred dollars.---

Thirdly. It is my Will and desire, that my twonegro fellows Isham and Minney, and my negro woman Easter with herchildren, Evelina, Sukey, Judy, Ransom, Jim Washington, Gabrial andany others she may have should be sold at my death; and that onefourth of the amount of their sales should be equally divided betweenmy grand children William Jones, Henry Jones Junior, and Polly orMary Tyner; one fourth between my grand children John Bates andMartha Gay; one fourth between my grand children Joseph H. and MarySylvester; and the other fourth I give to my daughter Martha Gibsonand her children, including Joseph H. and Mary Sylvester, forever; insuch a manner, that my daughter Martha Gibson shall be entitled tothe whole Interest of the money during her life; and at her death,the principal shall be equally divided among all her children.

Fourthly. I give a good bed and furniture to mygrand daughter Mary Sylvester.

Fifthly. For my regards for her and her childrenand for her kindness to me in my illness, it is my will and desirethat my niece Elizabeth DuBose should occupy my house, and have theuse of my land until my grandson Joseph H. Sylvester is twenty oneyears old. I also give my niece Elizabeth DuBose one bed andfurniture, and all my beehives.

Sixthly. I wish my old woman Sal to live with herhusband, if agreeable to his Mistress, Mrs. Howard, and to Salherself; and I give Sal one hundred dollars to support her, and to beused for her as my Executors may judge best.

Seventhly. The amount of my other property notmentioned, I wish to be equally divided between my two grand childrenJoseph H. and Mary Sylvester.

Lastly. I do hereby nominate, constitute andappoint my nephew William Vaughan, son of Noel Vaughan, and My friendJ. M. Roberts, executors of this my last Will and Testament; Hereby,revoking and making void all and every other Will at any time by meheretofore. made; and do declare this to be my last will andTestament, In witness whereof, I the said Naomi Hampton have hereuntoset my hand and seal this eight day of July Anno Domini, onethousand, eight hundred and nineteen.
