In the Name of God Amen I Joseph Howard of the County of Craven inthe Province of South Carolina Saint Marks parrish Doctor of Physickbeing about to take a Journey and Calling to mind the mortality ofmy body and knowing that it is appointed for all mortal ones to dieDo make and Ordain this my last Will & Testament that is to sayprincipally and first of all I give and recommend to the Earth to beburied in a Decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executorsnothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive thesame again by the Mighty power of God and as touching such worldlyEstate where with it hath pleased God to blesse me in this life Igive demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and foreIn the first place my desire is that all my Just debts should be paidand my Children Schoolled sufficient for any of the Country businefsin the part where they dwell and then my Will is as follows - Item Igive and bequeath to my daughter Jerusha Howard that tract of landthat I bought of Hodges More that James McCormack formerly dwelt onthat was granted to John Pletcher and a trust of fifty Acres Joiningto it that I bought of James Rivers which said land I give to herand the heirs of her body lawfully begotten, and farther I give her anegroe man named Gilbert and negroe woman named Nanny and a negroegirl named Hannah and a negroe boy named Toney, these negroes I giveto her and the heirs of her body, lawfully begotten and in Case shedie without lawful issue my will is that the above mentioned land& negroes should be returned to her two Brothers to be equallydivided between than One half to Heli Howard and the Other half toJames Howard Item I give & bequeath to my Son Heli Howard thattract of land I bought of Andrew Alison that was granted to JohnDargan and farther I give a negroe man named Nero & anothernegroe man named Tom & a negroe Boy named Mincy & a negroeGirl named Betty which said negroes James Howard to be EquallyDivided between them. Item I give & bequeath unto my son JamesHoward the plantation whereon I now live of all the premisses thereofExecepting one half of my Will & half of the premisses thereuntobelonging which said half Excepted I give to my son Heli Howard Ifarther give to my son James Howard a negro woman named Rose a negroboy named Peter & another negro boy named Jacob & a negrogirl named Fanny to him & the Heirs of his body lawfully begotten& in case he die without lawful issue my Will is that the saidNegroes return to his Sister & Brother Jerusha Howard & HeliHoward to be Equally Divided between them. Item. I lend to mybeloved wife Sarah Howard my Negro man Simon, & my Negro womanGill and I give her the Choice of my beds & the furniturebelonging to it & my Dapple Horse & riding Chair & thefurniture belonging to it & after my Wifes decease or Marriage Igive the the Negroe woman named Gill to my son Heli Howard & thenegro man named Simon to my son James Howard & in the next placeI give a hundred & fifty acres of land that I bought of JohnAppell to be Equally Divided, my Will is that lotts be cast by twoindifferent persons chose by them & Each to take his part by lot& last of all I give my moveables after my Children is Schooledall to be Equally Divided between my three Children Jerusha Howard,Heli Howard & James Howard, excepting my still, which I give tomy son Heli Howard.
