WILL OF HENRY LENUD

 

In the Name of God Amen. I Henry Lenud ofClaremont County in the State of South Carolina, being in fullpofsefsion of my mental faculties, do this first day of February inthe Year of Our Lord, one Thousand Eight Hundred & Nine make andpublish this my last will and Testament (that is to say) I recommendmy Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body tothe Earth from whence it came in hopes of a joyful resurrectionthrough the merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ. And first I give,bequeath and devise to my beloved Sister Eliza Love Theus all myUp-Lands and Tenements, to hold to her during her life, and from andafter her decease I give and devise the same to be equally dividedamongst her Children. Item I give to my Brother George Craft oneHalf of my Personal property. The remainding half I bequeath intrust to my Executor for the benefit of my Brother Peter Craft solong as he shall live, and in case of his death without lawful ifsueI give and bequeath the same to my God son&emdash;Craft youngest Sonof my Brother Edward Craft----

Item. I give to my said Brothers George and Peterthe use of my Wateree Swamp Tract, and after their decease if itshall sooner take place I devise the same to my said Godson&emdash;Craft youngest Son of Edward.

Item In case of the death of my saidGod-son&emdash;Craft before the age of Twenty and the death of saidPeter and George without Lawful ifsue it is my desire that my NephewHenry Leonard Theus inherit their separate gifts and bequests, and Ihereby give and bequeath the same to him. And should my Sister ElizaLove Theus die without leaving ifsue which shall arive if a male atthe age of Twenty or if a Female at the age of Sixteen I then givethat proportion of my estate bequeathed to her ifsue to the childrenof my brother Edward Craft to be equally divided amongstthem&emdash;Item. Whereas the Personal property of my Fathers Estatehas never been divided between my Sister and Myself agreeable to thedirections of his will and it is doubtful which particular Slave willfall to the lot of either; and it being my desire and wish toemancipate and set Free the Yellow Woman Lettice who has attentedabout my House, Now Therefore it is my desire that no part of myGifts, Legacies or bequeaths be inherited by either of the aforesaidParties or Persons untill the said women Lettice be emancipated. Butthat the same be appropriated to the Establishment of an Academy inClaremont County. Item. I desire an Annuity of Fifty Dollars perAnnum to be paid annually out of my Estate to the said women Letticefor her support and maintenance, and I give to her separate use aslong as she shall live a lot of ground not to contain lefs than TenAcres to be taken off of the Tract I live on and pointed out by Myexecutors.

Lastly. I nominate constitute and appoint mySister Eliza Love Theus my Executrix, and William J. Rees Francis G.Desiefueline and William D. Walter my Executors&emdash;And I dohereby revoke desannul and make void all other Wills by me at anytime heretofore made, and do make and declare this only to be my lastWill and Testament.
