WILL OF SAMUEL MONTGOMERY

 

In the Name of God Amen,

I Samuel Montgomery of the State of SouthCarolina, and District of Sumter, (Planter,) being Weak in Body, butin the full Exercise of my Reason, and Memory, Thanks be to God, forhis Mercies And Calling, to mind the Mortality, of my body, andKnowing that it is Appointed for all men Once to die, do make &appoint this my last Will, and Testament.---(Viz) First I Give &bequeath to my dearly beloved Wife, Jane, Montgomery, a Horse andRiding Chair, One Negro Boy Hamlet, and one Woman Phillis & herIfsue,

Second, I give and bequeath to my beloved SonIsaac, Two Plantations or Tracts of Land, the One Purchased fromRobert Frierson and the other from John Frierson, on which the saidIsaac now lives, and Three Negroes, (Viz) Dick, dido, and Jim.

Third, I Give and bequeath to my beloved DaughterRachel Plowden And her Surviving ifsue, One Plantation, Purchasedfrom John Dickey Esquire, and three Negroes, Sarah and her ifsueSilvia and her ifsue, and Satira and her ifsue,---

Fourth. I Give and bequeath to my beloved SonWilliam One Plantation, Purchased from William Frierson Esquire, andFour Hundred and ninety Eight Acres: Originally granted to JohnDickey Esquire for 1627 Acres,---And Four Negroes (Viz)---Titus.Clarifsa, January and Nancy.-

Fifth I Give and bequeath to my beloved Son Johnthe following Negroes (Viz) Sharper, Elvira, and Paul,---

Sixth I Give and bequeath to my beloved DaughterJane Plowden, And her Surviving ifsue, the following Negroes (Viz)Harry, Mary ann, and Cyrus.---

Seventh-I Give and bequeath to my beloved DaughterLetitia One Negro Girl Named Mary,---

Eighth, I Give and bequeath the Plantation, onwhich I now live, to my Four Youngest Son's to be Divided betweenthem as Equally as Practicable, in the following Manner-John to havehis divedend on Tentors Branch James at Arnots old Field. Samuel tothe West of John on Cold Hill, and Henry the Upper part of the SaidPlantation, Including the Dwelling House. Reserving to my belovedWife Jane her living on the said Plantation during herWidowhood.---

Nineth, I will and bequeath the Remainder of myPersonal property to my wife Jane, and my Son's James, Samuel andHenry and my Youngest Daughter Letitia, to be Equally Divided betweenthem, as these Children Shall Come of Age, or Shall Marry---

It is my wish that the Property bequeathed to thelast Mentioned Children, Should Only be Divided as they RespectivelyArive to year's of Maturity, or Marry,---And that the Said FourMentioned Children Should Continue, to live, with their Mother,during their Minority, or her lifetime, as the Case may be, --But ifin Case my wife Should Marry or die before any; or all, of the fourlast mentioned children come of age then and in that Case it is mywish and desire that they Should have their Dividends of my propertymade to them According to the true intent and Design of this Will andTestament---

Lastly, I do hereby Nominate, Constitute, andAppoint my beloved Wife Jane Executrix, And my three Eldest Sons,Isaac, William, and John, Executors of this my last will andTestament,---

And I do hereby Revoke, and Disannul, all andEvery other former Will and Testament by me made, --and appoint andConfirm this as my last Testament,---
