WILL OF WILLIAM PEARSON

 

In the Name of God Amen I William Pearson ofCamden District, in the State of South Carolina (Planter) being ofSound Mind and Memory, but weak in Body, Do make Constitute andappoint this my Last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all formerWills by me made and as touching all my Worldly Estate wherewith ithath pleased God to Blefs me I give Devise and Bequeath in Manner andform following----

Imprimis I give and Bequeath to my loving WifeDarcas Pearson, One Negroe Winch Named Thebe and her two ChildrenNamed Doll and Moses, And Another Winch Named Moriah with her ThreeChildren Named Prince Manser and Lucretia; A Feather Bed andfurniture and five Cows of the Choice of my Stock to be deliveredimmediately after my Decease, But if my said Wife Darcas, Shall Diewithout Lawfull Ifsue (Except that she has by me) It is my will theNegroes above Named Shall Return to my Estate For the use of my SonJames Pearson or the Heirs hereafter Named.

Item I give to my Trusty Negro fellow Jem of NoCarolina, his freedom, and he is hereby declared free at myDecease---

Item I give and Bequeath to my Son James Pearsonall the Remainder and Residue of my Estate Real and Personal to bedelivered to him at the age of Twenty One Years or day of MarriageAnd that his raising and Education, Shall be in the Power and at theDiscretion of my First Executor hereafter Named, and it is my Will,that all my Personal Estate Excepting all (or some) of my Negroes andTheir Planting Necefsarys, which is to be kept whole, if it can bedone without diminishing my Estate, but if my Plantation Keepingshould be found to the Disadvantage of my Estate then it shall andmay be in the Power of my Executors hereafter Named, to Sell all MyNegroes Except the Young ones

Item If my Son James Pearson should die beforethe Age of Twenty one Years or day of Marriage, or without LawfullIfsue, It is my Will, That then all my Estate aforesaid Shall go tomy Children (if alive) John Pearson Robert Pearson and Mary Pearsonof Talbott and Annopolis Countries in Maryland if they shouldLawfully Demand it in Five Years after the decease of my Son JamesPearson aforesaid.

Item I give to my Trusty fellow Jem whom I haveleft free in this will Twenty Acres of Land to be taken of the WestCorner of the Tract whereon I now live, during his NaturalLife.

Lastly I Do Constitute and Appoint William MartinEsq.r and John Cantey Esq.r both of Camden District Executors of Thismy Last Will and Testament, Disannulling all former wills by me made,In witnefs whereof I have hereunto Setting Mark and Affixed my SealThis Twenty Fourth day of February in the Year of our Lord1783---
