WILL OF EDWARD PLOWDEN

 

 

In the name of God Amen.

 

I, Edward Plowden of Sumter District andState of South Carolina being of Sound Mind and Memory and Calling toMind the uncertainty of Life and the great Certainty of death dohereby Make and Publish this my Last Will and Testament, Revoking andAnnulling all former wills and testaments by me heretoforemade.

 

First: It is my will and desire that the Deedswhich I have executed in favor of Edward Ransom Plowden, MilesHampton Plowden, William Plowden, Samuel Edgar Plowden, GabrielPlowden, Hannah Plowden and Samuel E. Nelson and Samuel EdgarPlowden, Trustees for Frances Elizabeth Plowden, and to Samuel E.Nelson and Samuel Edgar Plowden, Trustees for Mary Nelson Montgomery, be all confirmed (by my Executors hereafter named) delivering themrespectively to whom of Right they belong and that they stand in fullford and virtue agreeable to the intent and meaning of each and everyof them.

 

Second: Unto my son Samuel Edgar Plowden, I giveand Bequeath the plantation of land whereon he now resides includingtwo tracts of land adjoining the Will Tract bounded West by GeorgeRowe, on the North by Peter Haley and James Nelson's land, on theEast by Samuel E. Nelson' s land and on the South by Captain JamesDavis' land. The three tracts of land containing about eight hundredacres, more or less. My said son Samuel Edgar Plowden to have and tohold the said three tracts of land for and during the term of hisnatural life and no longer. And should his present wife, Ann Plowdensurvive him, then and in that event she is to have and to holdthesaid three tracts of land during her widowhood and no longer. Andafter the Decease of my said son Samuel Edgar Plowden and thetermination of the widowhood of the said Ann Plowden (if she evershould be a widow) then the said three tracts of land is hereby givenand bequeathed unto my grandson, James Edward Plowden, the son ofSamuel Edgar Plowden, his heirs and assigns forever.

 

Fourth: Unto my six grandchildren, Susanna Nelson,Eliza Pendergrass, John Conyers, Mary N. Conyers, Sanuel E. Conyersand Harriot Taylor Conyers, I give and Bequeath the sum of onehundred dollars each to be paid out of my stock of cattle.

 

Fifth: The rest and residue of my whole estatenot otherwise disposed of, I give and bequeath unto my sons SamuelEdgar Plowden, William Plowden, Miles Hampton Plowdon, Edward RansomPlowden, Gabrial Plowden and my daughters Mary Nelson Montgomery,Frances Elizabeth Plowdon and Hannah Plowdon Share and Sharealike.

 

Sixth & lastly: I do hereby constitute,nominate, and appoint my sons Samuel Edgar Plowdon, William Plowdonand Miles Hampton Plowdon as my Lawful Executors of this my Last Willand Testament.

Witness wereof I the said EDWARD PLOWDON havehereunto subscribed my name, affixed my Seal, and Declared,Pronounced and Published this my Last Will and Testament this TwentySeventh day of December in the Year of our Lord One Thousand EightHundred Seventeen.
