WILL OF JOHN TAYLOR

 

In the name of God, Amen. I, John Taylor, ofSumter District and State of South Carolina, being weak in body, thosound in mind and memory, calling to mind the mortality of this life,do make this my last will and testament in manner and formfollowing:

 

First, I desire all my just debts to be paid outof my personal estate.

 

Secondly, I lend to my beloved wife the house,out-houses, and plantation where I now live, together with all myhousehold and kitchen furniture and plantation tools, with all mystock during her widowhood and no longer, my small children at thesame time to be supported out of it with her.

 

Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my two oldestsons, John and Hasten Taylor, all that plantation or tract of landlying on Dog Funnel Branch, commonly called the Norton tract of land,to be equally divided between them, also the stock of hogs which theynow claim, the land and hogs here mentioned is the full portionallotted for the fore-mentioned John and Hasten Taylor.

 

Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my sons Asa,Harvey, Leonard, Sion and Tyler Taylor all my plantation or tract ofland whereon I now live, to be equally divided amongst them at thedeath of my wife, or on her marriage, and if any of the lastmentioned sons should die before the last mentioned tract of land isdivided, then and in that case his part is to go to the survivingbrothers last mentioned, and, further, my will is at the death ormarriage as before mentioned of my wife Margret Taylor that all mypersonal estate, goods and chattels be equally divided between thefollowing named children: Asa Taylor, Harvey Taylor, Tabitha Taylor,Leonard Taylor, Sion Taylor, Milford Taylor and Tyler Taylor, and incase and of the last mentioned child or children should die beforethe division is made, his or their part or parts is to go to thesurviving ones last mentioned.

 

Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my daughterRebeckah Bates the sum of one dollar, to be paid to her fourteenyears after my decease.

 

Sixthly, I do hereby appoint and constitute myfriends Jesse Nettles Jr. and John Nettles my only and lawfulExecutors to this my last will and testament.

 

Given under my hand this 27th day of February, inthe year of our Lord 1820.
