WILL OF WILLIAM WATSON

 

In the name of God, Amen.

I William Watson, of Sumter District SouthCarolina, planter, being afflicted in body, but sound in mind andJudgment do make this my last Will and Testament in the followingmanner. My immortal Soul I commit to the Sovereign mercy of mygracious Redeemer. My mortal body I wish to be decently interred.After my just debts are paid, I give and bequeath all the propertywith which it has pleased the Lord to bless me, to my beloved wife,Sarah, during her life or widowhood. This property consists of onenegro fellow named Damon, a negro woman named Anna with her twochildren Charles and Lewis, and her future increase, a tract of landcontaining eighty six and a half acres with all its improvements,horses, cattle, hogs and household furniture

Item. In case my beloved wife should marry or ather death, it is my desire that my two half sisters, ElizabethHarvin, and Naomi Harvin, should have the four above mentionednegroes equally divided between them, in such a manner, that mySister Naomi Harvin should have Damon, and my sister Elizabeth Harvinshould have Anna with her two children Charles and Lewis and herfuture increase; but that the deficiency of half the value of thesefour negroes should be paid by my Sister Elizabeth to my SisterNaomi. Item. In case of the marriage or at the death of my belovedwife, it is my desire that my land or the value of it with itsimprovements should be equally divided between Ezra Allen, KopkinsSeals and Elesabeth Belk and the heirs of her body. Item. In case ofthe marriage or at the death of my beloved wife, I give my brotherDavid Watson all my clothes, horses, cattle, hogs and other Stockwith all my plantation tools; also my household furniture, exceptthree beds and furniture, which many beds and furniture I give to mybeloved wife to dispose of as she pleases. I appoint my beloved wifeSarah, Ezra Allen and Richard Harvin, Executors of this my last Willand Testament.

I declare all other Wills and Testaments made heretofore to be Void & null and this to be my last Will andTestament. Written and executed in the year of our Lord one thousandeight hundred and sixteen, December the ninth.
