WILL OF EDWARD WOODHAM

 

In The Name of God amen, I Edward Woodham of theState of South Carolina and District of Sumter planter. I being in alow State of health, but of a perfect mind and Memory thanks be toGod for his Mercy, but calling into mind the Mortality of my body doMake & Ordain this instrument to be my last Will & Testamentin manner and form as following To Wit principally & first of allI recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God who gave it. MyBody I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian likemanner and as touching such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God toblefs me with I give & dispose of in the following Manner, Viz.

First I lend to my beloved Wife Mary Woodhamduring her life One Negro Woman Named Cate, Also One Horse namedCall, & my household furniture where she lives.

Second, I lend to Mary Wiggins during her life OneNegro Man Named Jacob.

Thirdly I give to my Daughter Polly Alexander OneNegro Man Named Jack to her and her heirs forever,

Fourthly I give to my Grandson (C?)riss WoodhamOne Negro Man Named Fortune to him and his heirs forever,

fifthly I give to my Daughter Lovicy Caton allthat tract of land I purchased of Daniel Wiggins Adjoining Doct.rMillens land to her & her heirs forever.

My will & desire is that my Stock of hogs& Cattle not heretofore given away to remain in the hands of myWife & her benefit & after her death to be sold & dividedamong her Children. further my Will is that the Negro Girl Cate lentmy Wife remain as my Estate until she has two Children Which Childrenare to be disposed of as follows the first if any I give to myGrandson Athanatius Woodson to him & his heirs forever, thesecond if any I give to my Grandson Edward Woodson to him & hisheirs forever:

I do hereby constitute Make & Ordain DanielWiggins & Asa Woodard my Sole Executors of this my last Will& Testament, hereby utterly disallow-revoke and disannull everyother former Will or Testament by me made, Ratifying & Confirmingthis & no other to be my last Will & Testament. In Witnefswhereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10th day ofAugust One Thousand Eight hundred & twenty & in the fortyfifth year of American Independence.
