WILL OF MARTHA BENBOW



I, Martha Benbow of Sumter District, South Carolina, widow of Col. Evan  Benbow, being in health & of sound & disposing Mind; do make this My last Will & Testament.

Whereas my deceased husband, by his last Will & Testament of record in the  Office of Ordinary for Sumter District dated 21ST June, 1834, did authorise me to convey by Deed or dispose of by will, three sevenths of his estate, as will appear by reference to said will, I do hereby dispose of the Same & any other estate I may have, as follows;

First--I give & bequeath to the Methodist Church called St. Paul's on Taw Caw in Said district, two hundred dollars-and to the St. John's Methodist Church near Bradford Springs in said district, two hundred dollars; the said Sums to be expended by the officers of the Said churches in repairing & improving the places of worship of said Churches.

Secondly--I give & bequeath to Eliza L. Richbourgh the sum of one hundred dollars & to Sarah Bowman, the sum of one hundred dollars.

I trust, if the Legislature of this State should not let Dulcy & her child Rufus be emancipated agreeably to the written desire of my Said husband that they will be allotted to my estate on the division of my deceased husband's estate.  Should they be allotted to my estate, I direct & request My Executors to take good care of them & let them work for their own personal benefit-And I give to the said Executors in Trust, the sum of four
hundred dollars, to be put out at interest & the interest paid annually to the said Dulcy for her life & after her death to her Son Rufus for his life.

As to the rest & residue of my estate, I direct it to be divided into Three equal parts.  I give, bequeath & devise one of the said three parts to my brother Joel L. Green but if he should die before I do, then the same to go to his daughter.

I give, bequeath & devise to my sister Susannah Benbow, one of the said three parts, but if she die before I do, then I give the same to her children.

The other third part to be divided into two equal parts, one of which said parts, I give, bequeath & devise to Isabella G. Brewer, & if she die before I do, then it is to go to her children.

The other part or half of said one third, I give, bequeath a devise to Samuel C. Kolb, to be paid to my half-brother Moses Green in to said Samuel C. Kolb, the said part or half.

Lastly,--I nominate & appoint my brother Joel L. Green Executor hereof during his life & after his death, Richard Benbow, James H. Dingle & Richard Ragin.
