WILL OF JOHN COX

 

 

In the Name of God, Amen

 

I, John Cox, of the state of South Carolina andresiding in Sumpter District being weak in body but of sound mind andmemory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in mannerand form following -- that is to say I recommend my Soul to God whogave it and my body to the Earth to be decently interred at thediscretion of my Executrix and Executor here after to be named andwith respect to my worldly Estate I give and dispose of in thefollowing manner -- That is to say after all my just debts andfuneral expenses are paid --

 

I give and bequeath unto beloved wife Eleanor Coxand my beloved children all my personal Estate--to be equally dividedbetween them -- share and share alike -- to them and their heirs andassigns forever -- my will is that each child shall draw their shareas they come of lawful age or marry --

 

Secondly -- my will is that all my real Estateshall remain until the youngest child comes of age then to be soldand divided between my wife and children share and share alike -- tothem and their heirs and assigns forever, but it is my will that atany time before my youngest shall come of age -- if my Executors andExecutrix jointly shall conceive it for the benefit of my Estate andthink they can sell all -- or any part of my real Estate to advantage-- my will is that they shall have power so to do and divide equallyas above mentioned --

 

Thirdly -- I do hereby constitute and appoint mybeloved wife, Eleanor Cox, Executrix -- and my beloved son, JosephCox, Executor -- to this my last will and testament -- revoking allother wills heretofore by me made -- ratifying and confirming thisand no other -- to be my last will and testament dated at Charlestonthis twenty-eighth day of March in the year of our Lord -- Onethousand eight hundred and twenty-eight --
