WILL OF SUSANNA GILLEY

 

 

In the Name of God Amen. I Susanna Gilley of Clarendon County and Sumter District in the State of South Carolina being at this time Sick and of feeble health but of sound mind anddisposing memory and knowing that it is appointed for all personsonce to die do hereby make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (Towit) And first of all I commit and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God its giver and my body to its mother earth. And my worldly estate with which it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and devisein the manner and form as follows --

Item 1. I desire that my Executors hereafter to be appointed do proceed to sell as soon as practicable after my decease all my Stock of Horses Cattle and Hogs for the purpose of paying my lawful Debts, but should there not be a sufficiency raised by the sale of Stock to pay my debts then I desire that all of my property remain and continue in the possession of my Executorsuntill they are satisfied

Item 2. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved son John Cobia one negroe woman named Sally one negroe man named Robert and one boy named Paris with the future increase of thesaid woman Sally unto him the said John Cobia during his natural life and at his death to all his lawful children forever

Item 3. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Susanna Brunson one negroe boy named Hampton and one negroe Girl named Rachel to her and the lawful issue of her bodyforever and no way to be subject to the debts of her Husband or Husbands, nor to be alienated by him or them

Item 4. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Sarah Corbett One negroe named Isaac and one negroeboy called William Sanders to her and the lawful issue of her body forever and in no manner to be liable to the debts of her Husband or Husbands, and not to be Alienated by him or them in no way whatsoever ------

Item 5. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved grand son William Henry Hochett one negroe boy named Juba during his natural life and at his death to his lawful children should he have any but in case he should die leaving no lawful childor children then the said negroe boy Juba must return and belong to my surviving children -------------

Item 6. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved grand children Susanna G. Walker and Charles A. Walker one negroe Girl named Satirah to them during their natural lives and at their death to their lawful children but in case either of the above named Susanna G. Walker or Charles A. Walker should die leaving no lawful child or children then the said negroe Girl Satirah and her issue to belong exclusively to the survivor but in case both should die leaving no lawful children then I give and devise the said negroe Girl Satirah and her issue to my surviving children share and share alike

Item 7. I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my beloved son John Cubia and my friend Joseph F. Richbourg Executors to this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and disannul all former Wills or Will made by me

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Thirty and in the fifty fourth year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America

 

Signed Sealed published pronounced and declared by Susanna Gilley to be her last will and testament in the presenceof us who in her presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto.
