In the name of God Amen. I William Hilton ofState and district aforesaid being in good bodily health and soundand disposing mind and memory considering the certainty of death andthe uncertainty of the time thereof, to the end that I may the betterprepare to leave this world when it shall please my god to call mehence, have now determined to direct what disposition shall be madeof my estate, after my decease and after mature deliberation, I domake, publish and declare this my last will and testament, herebyrevoking and making null and void all former last wills andtestaments by me heretofore made.

 

And my last Will is first that after my decease mybody shall be decently buried without ostentation or unnecefsaryexpence and that my funeral expences and just debts be paid by myexecutors hereinafter mentioned. And as to the residue of myproperty with which it has pleased God to blefs me, I give devise andbequeath thereof in the following manner.

 

To wit, I give devise and bequeath to my belovedwife Ann Hilton the use of my plantation and negroes in common withmy children during her life should she continue single, having allthe priviledges that she now enjoys but not allowed to contractdebts.

 

Item. Should my wife marry again I give andbequeath unto her one horse, chair, one bed and furniture and TwoHundred dollars in consideration of which she must forthwith leave mypremises.

 

Item. When my youngest child becomes of age, mywill is that the real estate be equally divided among my childrenthat may than be living and after them each receive a share of Twelvehundred dollars in my perishable property.

 

I wish my Grand son Henry H. Lesesne to have onesixth part of the remaining undivided part of perishable property andthen the ballance to be equally divided between mychildren---said---Henry H. Lesesne having no part in my real estate,as I have already granted him a tract of land.

 

Item. During the minority of my youngest child oruntil he becomes of age each of my children are at liberty to stay athome on either of plantations and shall be entitled to their support,my property neverthelefs no subject to debts that they maycontract.

 

Item. Should my beloved wife live and continue awidow until my property is divided each one of my heirs shall give anequal part in making up an annual sum of one hundred and fiftydollars for her support during her life.

 

And last I nominate my friends John E. Coskney,James F. Ridgway and my son James B. Hilton to be my Executors tothis my last will and testament. In testimony whereof, I the saidWilliam Hilton have to this my last will and testament subscribed myname and affixed my Seal, this 26 day of January, in the year of ourLord, one thousand eight hundred and forty three.
