Joseph T. Jordan

Sumter District} In the name of God amen. IJoseph T. Jordan of the State and District aforesaid, being in a lowstate of health but of perfect mind and memory and calling to mindthe mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for allmen to die, I dispose of all my worldly Estate where with it haspleased God to bless me, in the following manner &endash;

Item 1st- I desire that my body to be buried in aChristian manner and all my just debts paid.

Item 2nd- I give and bequeath to my beloved wifeHarriet Jordan all the tract of land whereon I now live during herlifetime or widowhood, and at her death or marriage to belong to myfour children (to wit) Samuel C. Jordan, Lemmon B. Jordan, SusanJordan, Theodosia Jordan, and if my wife die or marry before myyoungest child comes to the age of twenty one years, the said land toremain in the hands of my Executors here after named until it comesto the age of twenty one and the profits arising from it to beapplied to the use and benefit of the said children above named andwhen the youngest child arrives to the age of twenty one years. Thesaid land to be sold and equally divided among my four children abovenamed.

Item 3rd My will and desire is that my horse andrig with my household and Kitchen furniture with every other thingnot heretofore mentioned to remain in the hands of my wife during hernatural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage to be appliedto the use of my four children above named in like manner as the landabove named in the second Item &endash; with the exception of onefeather bed and furniture which is to be my beloved wife's to disposeof as she may think proper even in case she should marry.

Item 4th I do hereby nominate constitute andtestament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and sealthe twelfth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousandeight hundred and forty five.
