WILL OF RICHARD I. MANNING

 

I, Richard I. Manning, of Sumter District, SouthCarolina, do hereby constitute and appoint Col. John (middle initial I or P) Richardson of Clarendon, South Carolina my proper and lawfulAttorney to transact any matter of business, to make any settlement,give any obligation, make any purchase or to do any act or thingwhich I could myself do or perform in business of any kind; and hisacts shall be as lawful and as valid as though I had myself done orperformed them during the whole time of absence from hand, during thepresent session of the Congres of the United States.I hereby give himfull power of my affairs at home as I do myself legally and properlypossess. And I, confiding in his judgement and faithfulness, doconstitute and appoint him in the event of any thing happening to me,my sole and proper and lawful Executor, to manage, to direct, and tosettle all properties, of whatever kind it has pleased God to giveme, and to divide and distribute all such properties, agreeable tothe proper acts of distribution, under the laws of this state, withthis exception, that my beloved wife Elizabeth shall have to her ownproper use during her lifetime, in addition to an equal distributiveshare to Willliam, Hardy C., Ned and Felia.If in the wisdom of God,death should take from his friends, John P.Richardson, aforesaid,then James P. Richardson, JR, Thomas C. Richardson, John L. Manningshall be my lawful Executors to consummate, to carry into effect thiswhich I design as my True Will and Testament, revoking hereby allothers whatever this 14th day of December 1835.
