In the name of God Amen, I, John McDonald
of the said district & State, being of sound and disposing mind &
memory, (Thanks be to the Lord for the same)
do hereby declare this to be my last Will & testament.

In the
first place, I direct my body to be decently interred & I commit my soul to
Him who gave it .-----
I give & bequeath to my daughter Sarah R.
McDonald two hundred dollars in money - the six following
slaves, to wit, Rachel, Marinda, Caroline, Tom,
Reuben & Martin, with the increase of the females, and her choice of two
beds & bed furniture, and should the said Sarah R. McDonald die without
leaving child or children, the said negroes at her death to be equally divided
between John McDonald my son if alive & without child or children, & my
surviving grand-children - each family of grand children to take among them one
share, & my son John to take a like share.
I give
and bequeath to my son John McDonald the three following negro slaves, to wit,
Brister, Susey & Bob with the increase of the females, together with the
next choice of two beds & bed furniture, and should the said John McDonald
die without leaving child or children,
the said negroes at his death to be equally divided between my daughter
Sarah R. McDonald if alive & without child or children, & my surviving
grandchildren, each family of grand children to take among them one share,
& my daughter Sarah R. to take a like
share.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I give
and bequeath to the children of Jared
& Ann Laws, one negro girl Amelia & her future increase.
All the
rest & residue of my personal estate and my real estate I give, devise
& bequeath to Sarah R. McDonald if unmarried, or without children or child,
John McDonald if unmarried or without children or child, and the child or
children of Thomas and Mary Commander – the child or children of George &
Martha Laws the child or children of Jared & Ann Laws - and the child or
children of William & Eliza Green - the child or children of each respectively
to take among them one share or portion - and should my daughter Sarah R.
McDonald have a child or children living at my death or my son John McDonald
have a child or children living at my death, then the child or children of the
said Sarah R. McDonald & John McDonald shall respectively take the share or
portion by the first part of this clause given, devised & bequeathed to the
said Sarah R. McDonald & the said John McDonald if unmarried or without
children and should the said Sarah R. McDonald die without leaving child or children,
then her share or portion of & in to the property real & personal,
devised & bequeathed by this clause to be equally divided between my son
the said John McDonald if alive and without child or children, & my
surviving grand children, each family of grand children to take among them one
part or share & my said son John McDonald to take a like share- and should
my son the said John McDonald die without leaving child or children, then his
share or portion of & in to the property real & personal divised &
bequeathed by this clause to be equally divided between my daughter the said
Sarah R. McDonald if alive & without child or children, & my surviving
grand children, each family of grand children to take among them one part or
share & my said daughter Sarah R. McDonald to take a like
share.---------------------------------------------------------------
I
nominate & appoint my friends James W. English & Alfred Scarborough
Executors to this my last Will & Testament - & I exhort my children
& grandchildren to peace & harmony.----------------------------- In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my
Hand & Seal, this, fifteenth day of March Eighteen hundred & thirty
