In the name of the Triune God Amen, I James Nelsonof Clarendon County Sumter District So. Carolina Planter, Do herebymake this my last Will and Testament in manner and form followingviz:
First.....I give and bequeath unto my belovedwife Isabella Louisa Nelson the following Negroes in lieu of dower;charlotte Neptune Satira Aleck Rose Tom Toby Rachel Letty and Cicero,and their increase; my Household and Kitchen furniture, plantationTools Stock of Horses Cattle Hogs and Sheep during her Natural life,and after the death of my said wife Isabella Louisa Nelson I will andbequeath unto my son Jared J. Nelson the above named Negroes vizCharlotte Neptune Satira, Aleck Rose Tom Toby Rachel Letty Cicerowith their increase, I also will and bequeath unto my wife IsabellaLouisa Nelson, the plantation whereon I now live with the dwellingand out Houses and Mill and all other appurtenances thereuntoappertaining during her natural life. It is my will that myhousehold and Kitchen furniture, plantation Tools and stock of everydescription shall be the bona fide property of my wife IsabellaLouisa Nelson subject to her exclusive disposal thro life and at herdeath.
Second.....At the decease of my wife IsabellaLouisa Nelson I will and bequeath the above plantation whereon I nowlive containing one thousand acres more or lefs and the mill thereonwhich is known and ascertained by a plat made out for my deceased SonSamuel James Nelson in his life time, unto the following four namedchildren of my Son Samuel James Nelson deceased Viz James Harvey,John Witherspoon Sarah Scott and Samuel James, to be equally dividedamong them; and in case of the death of any of the above namedchildren during their minority, It is my will that his or her part ofthe above named plantation shall be equally divided among thesurviving children of my Son Samuel James Nelson deceased. It isalso my will and desire that as soon as the eldest surviving child ofmy deceased Son Samuel James Nelson comes of age or his daughter SaraScott marries, the above bequeathed plantation shall be divided amongthe heirs thereof; provided neverthelefs that my wife Isabella LouisaNelson shall decease previous to that period; other wise the divisionnot to take place till after her death.
Third.....I will and bequeath unto my daughterIsabella Witherspoon a Tract of Land containing one thousand acresmore or lefs, situated between lands owned by Samuel E. PlowdenTreadwell Smith Jared J. Nelson and the Wife Taylors, and which is particularly marked out and described in a plat which she now holdsof said parcel of Land during her natural life; and after her death Iwill and bequeath the above mentioned Tract of Land to her childrenthe ifsue of her body to be equally divided among them share andshare alike.
Fourth.....I will and bequeath unto my fourfollowing named Grand children William James Hammet, Jared N. Hammet,Susan Anne & Elizabeth Hammet, the following Negroes Mary herchildren Susannah and her child and Flander and their futureincrease, to be equally divided among them when the oldest survivingchild comes of age or either of the females shall marry--H B, thewords in the last part of the third line in this fourth articleinterlined viz/the following Negroes/before signing and executingthis will/
Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute andappoint Jared J. Nelson Samuel E. Nelson Thomas E. Dickey and JohnM. Witherspoon my lawful Executors to this my last Will andTestament; and I do hereby authorise them to appoint commissioners toappraise and divide the above willed property according to the trueintent of this my last Testament and as the time may arrive at whichit is to be divided. Given under my hand and seal this twenty eighthday of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred andthirty three; and the fifty eighth year of the Independence of theUnited State of America.
