Will of Jesse Nettles

 

In the name of God Amen I Jefse Nettles of SumterDistrict and State of South Carolina Being weak in body but ofperfect mind and memory and calling to Mind the mortality of my body,and knowing that it is appointed For all men once to die, , do makeand ordain this my last will And testament, that is to say. After mydeath, I desire that all my just debts should first be paid.

2ndy ) I give and bequeath to my four youngestSons to wit, John Nettles, Harvey Nettles, Joseph M. Nettles, andAmos A Nettles, all the Land which I psfsefs at this time to beequally divided between them having reguard to quantity andValuation, It is also my wish that my youngest Son Amos A. Nettlesshould have that part of my land whereon is my buildings and orchard. I also give to the Said Amos A. Nettles my Stile and one featherbed and furniture.

3ly ) I give and bequeath to my daughter Tabithamy young bay Horse Colt, my riding Chair, one Cow and Calf and onefeather Bed and furniture,

4thy ) I give unto my son Joseph M Nettles twentydollars which he is in due me, in leu of a feather Bed

5thly ) I give and bequeath to my Son HarveyNettles one feather Bed and furniture

6thly ) I give and bequeath to my son JohnNettles one feather Bed and furniture,

7thly ) I give and bequeath to my daughter Maryfive Shillings as her full part of my Estate to be paid to her by myexecuters Six months after my decease.

8thly ) all the remaining part of my personalEstate not before bequeathed my will is that it be aprased by threeor five disintrused persons to be chosen by my Executors, and theamount thereof devided into thirteen equal parts my Negros afterbeing appraised as above mentioned to be devided into nine lots anddrawn for by Jefse Nettles, Hezekiah Nettles, John Nettles, HarveyNettles, Joseph M. Nettles, Amos A Nettles, Martha Rogers TemperanceHolladay and Elcey Pack, each one paying over what his or her lot ofNegros may bay be more than one thirteenth part of the whole of mypersonal Estate as mentioned above so as to make thirteen equal partsbetwixt Jefse Nettles Hezekiah Nettles, John Nettles, Harvey Nettles,Joseph M. Nettles Amos A Nettles, Martha Rogers Temperance Holladayand Elcey Pack, the Children of Winney Brunson decd. one thirteenthpart to be devided among them to be paid by my executors as theyceverally come of age or marry, Also the children of Elizabeth Atkinsdecd . the one thirteenth part amongst them Share ad Share to be paidthem as they come of age or Marry. Also my three grand ChildrenNamely Ann McKellar, James D. W. McKellar, and Jefse I. McKellar onethirteenth part amongst them to be paid to them as they come of ageor marry, Should one or more of my three named grand Children diebefore they come of age or marry then the surviving brother or sisteras the case may be to have his or her part. Lastly I likewiseconstitute make and ordain Jefse Nettles, Jr., Hezekiah Nettles andjohn Nettles my only and sole Executors, of this my last will andTestament, and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul alland every other former Testament Will and

Executors by me in any way before this time namedand bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be mylast will and Testament. In witnefs whereof I have hereunto set myhand and Seal this twenty fourth day of May in the Year of our Lordon thousand eight hundred and twenty two-
