In the name of God amen I Daniel Norton of SumterDistr South Carolina being weak in body but of sound disposing mindfor the purpose of making a proper disposition of my property do make& ordain the following to be my last will & Testament.
First--- I desire that my Executors herein afternamed shall pay all of my just debts---------
Second--- I give & bequeath to my son JohnNorton the sum of Five Dollars---------------
Third---I give & bequeath to my daughterTemperance Norton one Negro Girl named Charlotte, one bed &furniture for and during her life and after her decease to the lawfulheirs of her body, but if she have none then the said Charlotte &her Issue to go to my grand son William Richard Norton son of RichardNorton decd.---------
Fourth---I give & bequeath to my daughter AnnaWilliams, one Negro Girl named Fanny, during her life, and after herdeath to the said the said Fanny and her Issue, to be Equally dividedbetween her two Children Mary I. Williams and Caleb Andrew JacksonWilliams
Fifth---I Give & Bequeath to my son JesseNorton one Negro boy named Frank, for and during his natural life,and after his decease, to the lawful heirs of his body if none thensaid Frank to go to the lawful children of my sons, Timothy &Sam.
Sixth--- I give and bequeath to grand son JamesHamilton Norton (son of Richard Norton decd) one Negro Girl namedMatilda for & during his natural life, and after his decease tothe lawful heirs of his body if none then to his Brother WilliamRichard Norton--
Seventh--I give & bequeath to the Lawfulchildren of my son Timothy Norton, one lot of land on which TimothyNorton lives say two acres, tying on the main road leading fromSumterville to Turkey Creek to have they and their heirsforever--------------
Eight--I give & bequeath to my son JabezNorton & to my grandson James Hamilton Norton, all the balance orresidue of my real Estate in a body lying on Turkey creek belowsumterville say about three hundred and ninety five acres more ofless including the place where I now live, to be equally dividedbetween them, or if my son Jabez Norton should prefer to pay to mygrandson James Hamilton Norton or sum to paid, to my Executors, orGuardian or such other person as may lawfully have charge of theproperty of James Hamilton Norton, the sum of five Hundred Dollars,then my son Jabez Norton to have all of the land above bequeathed,otherwise the Land to be sold, and the proceeds to be equally dividedbetween the two---------
Ninth--I give and bequeath to my grandson WilliamRichard Norton (Son of Richd Norton decd) three hundred Dollars to beinvested as soon as my Estate is settled in some safe stock until hearrives at the age of Twenty one- and if the said Wm Richd. Nortonshould die before he arrives at that age, the above stock to go toJames Hamilton Norton--
Tenth--I give and bequeath to the children of mySons Timothy & Saml Norton lawfully by other, all the residue orremaining Negros that belong to me, not already disposed of, and thatI may be possessed of at my decease to be equally divided amongthem-------
Eleventh--I give & bequeath to my sons JesseTimothy & Jabez, all the money, that I may have at my decease,also all debts due me or becoming due, to be equally divided, toshare, & share alike
Twelveth, It is my desire that after the abovespecial legatees are paid then several legacies, that if any left,from the sale of all the personal property belonging to me, Exceptsuch as above bequeathed that the same shall be distributed, by myExecutors to my lawful heirs, as may in their opinion stand most inneed-------
Thirteenth, I Nominate and appoint My Son JabezNorton and William Nettles, Executors to this my last Will andTestament
