WILL OF THOMAS ORR


State of South Carolina

I, Thomas Orr, Physician, of Sumter District and State aforesaid, being very sick and weak of body, but of sound mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for every man once to die do make constitute and ordain this my last will and testament—

First, I recommend my Soul to God, that gave it and

Secondly, that my body be interred in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, as respects my worldly Estate, which it has pleased God to bless me with, I wish it to be disposed of in the following manner—to wit

I give and bequeath to my beloved brother, Doctor Joseph Orr, all my landed Estate in Ireland together with all my bonds, notes and accounts, both in Ireland and America—

And to my sister, Mary Brown, I give and bequeath the sum of ten guineas as being her portion of all property by me owned

The property above named to extend to my brother and his lawful Heirs forever. And it is my will that my Executors, do preserve unsold my property in America excepting my horse, which I wish to disposed of as soon after my death as possible to the best advantage, and the money arising from said sale to become, also, the property of my brother, Dr. Joseph Orr, whom I wish to come to America and receive my property here left—

And I nominate, constitute and appoint my friends, Charles Lesesne and William N McDonald, Executors to this my last will and testament—

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Thirteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three—
