Will of Jesse Peebles

Sumter District

Know all men by those presents that I Jefse Peebles of the district and State aforesaid being Sound in mind do hereby make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following

Item 1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Peebles one hundred acres of land being part of the Tract whereon I now live in the South east Corner of Said tract Bounded north on the Camden road east and South by the original lines also I give unto her my Said wife the east room and fire place of my dwelling house during her lifetime or widowhood and in Case my Said wife maries She has no longer the use and privilige of the room and fire place aforesaid I also give and bequeath to my Said wife one negro man named Jack and one negro woman named Feriby during her natural life and at her death the Said negroes with the increase if any to be equally divided between my two Children namely Sarah Peebles and William H Peebles I Also give my Said wife one mule known by the name of Darby also two feather beds Steads and Furniture two Cows and Calves two Breeding Sows and eight head of meat hogs and ten head of Sheep one hundred bushels of Corn, and fodder in proportion also one gig and harnefs‑ Item 2d I give bequeath to my Said Daughter Sarah Peebles all that tract or parcel of land I have heretofore laid out by plat for my Said daughter also fifty acres more or lefs adjoining the aforesaid tract which I purchased from Ezekie1 Scott also all that part or gore of land lying on the north end of the aforesaid plat and adjoining lands belonging to Stephen Hanks Esquire James Corbett and Charles Hiatt also I give and bequeath to my Said daughter Sarah Peebles Six negroes. namely Funard Dinah and her four Children namely Nelson Jacob Louiza Elen two feather beds and furniture

Item 3d I give and bequeath to my Sd. Son William H Peebles all the balance of my land house and plantation also Six negroes namely March Titus Will alston Ben and Ancrum I also give to my Said Son William H Peebles one hundred dollars My Will and desire is that the balance of my Estate of whatsoever nature or Kind except that part heretofore disposed of be Sold and after my Just debts be paid the balance if any to be equaly divid between my said wife Elizabeth Peebles and my Said Children namely Sarah Peebles and William HI Peebles

Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my Son Inlaw Lewis Peebles and my Son William H Peebles as my Executors to this my Last Will and Testament In testimony hereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty Six
