In the name of God Amen, I James W. Sherriff ofthe State and District aforesaid, being weak of body but sound mindand memory for which I thank Almighty God, do make this My last Willand Testament in manner and form following.

 

First I commit My Soul into the hands of AlmightyGod, and my body to be decently burried at the discretion of myExecutors to be hereafter named, and my worldly effects to bedisposed of in the following manner. That is to say, All of myproperty both Real & Personal to be kept together and improved tothe best advantage for the purpose of paying my just debts and thesupport of my Beloved family until my children should become of ageof marry, and as they shall become of age or marry to receive theirproportionate shear of my Estate. Allowing My Beloved wife a decentsupport according to my Estate during her Natural life, and at herdeath to return the balance to be equally divided amongst mychildren. Shear and Shear alike.

 

Lastly I nominate and appoint my beloved wifeSarah Sherriff and my Friends L. F. Rhame & Thos. D. Rhame,Executrix and Executors to this my last Will and Testament. Revokingall other Wills and Testaments by me made.

 

In witnefs I have hereunto set My hand and sealthis Seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousandeight hundred and thirty nine, and in the Sixty third year of theIndependence of the United States of America.
