Will of Rebecca Singleton

 

In the name of God Amen.

 

This third day of May in the year of our Lord onethousand eight hundred and twenty three, I Rebecca Singleton of theDistrict of Sumter and State of South Carolina, being in sufficientstrength of Body and of perfect mind and memory, Do make, constituteand ordain this my last will and Testament.

 

First and principally I tender my soul to God whogave it, steadfastly trusting in his mercy and the interception ofJesus Christ for everlasting life. And as toughing my worldly goodswherewith it hath him of his infinite goodness and mercy to endow mein this life, I do give, bequeath, and dispose of in the followingmanner and form.

 

Imprimis, To my beloved daughter Mary Martha McRaI give bequeath and devise the whole of my estate Real and Personalat my decease, consisting of all my plate and of whatsoever sort ofkind that I may possess or be entitled unto at the time of decease(except such as may herein after be disposed of) to her and her ownuse and behoof forever, and to be by her will'd and disposed of asshe may desire.

 

Item, The sum of Six thousand dollars in speciewhich I have deposited in the Branch Bank of the United Sates atCharleston, I give, devise and bequeath whatever portion may remainthere at my decease to my beloved grand Sons Charles Dundas DeasBrown and Robert Henry Brown to be vested in Bank Stock and to beequally divided between them share and share alike.

 

Lastly, I do hereby nominate, constitute andappoint my beloved daughter Mary Martha McRa my whole and SoleExecutrix to this my last Will and testament, utterly revoking,disallowing and disallowing all other Will or Will, Testament orTestament, and acknowledgeing, pronouncing , publishing and declaringthis and not other to be my last Will and Testament, contain'd onthis Sheet of Paper, and to be construed and taken in the liberal andliteral Sense and meaning.

 

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand andaffix'd my Seal, the day and year first above written.
