Will of Edmund Stuckey

 

 

In the Name of God Amen. I, Edmund Stuckey ofSalem County, Sumpter District State of South Carolina being inperfect health and disposing memory thanks be to God for the same domake and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner andform following [Viz]

 

First and principally, I bequeath my Soul intothe hands of Almighty God hoping for remission for my Sins throughthe merits of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ. And my Body I committo the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner and as touchingmy worldly Estate which it has pleased God to bless me with I giveand dispose of in manner and form following to wit.

 

Item I give to wife, Rebecca Stuckey, one NegroGirl named Miley and all the other property she had when I marriedher. Also I lend her the house and Plantation where I now live tothe Main Road except one acre where my son, Howel, lives during herwidowhood. Also, three Negroes by the name of Fan, Perry and Elias,also, two feather beds, bedstead & furniture, and all thehousehold and kitchen furniture, except the remainder of the beds,also, one loom and all the keys and harness, also, the riding chairand harness and one horse of her own choice, one cart and wheels, twocows and calves, two sows and pigs, and one year's support inprovisions, also as many Plantation tools as she needs.

 

Item I give to my son, Simon, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my son, John, ten dollars besideswhat I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my daughter, Nancy, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given her.

 

Item I give to my daughter, Polly, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given her.

 

Item I give to my daughter, Frances, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given her.

 

Item I give to my son, Edmund, five Negroes by thename of Phenby, Reddie, Dennis, Irby, Davia.

 

Item I give to my son, Stephen, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my son, William, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my son, Shem, ten dollars besidewhat I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my son, Starky, ten dollars besideswhat I have already given him.

 

Item I give to my son, Hardy, eight Negroes by thenames of Jim, Lige, Dinah, Jenney, Isey, Luinda, Jerry &Ford.

 

Item I give to my son, Howel, one acre of landwhereon his dwelling house and out house and all the remaining partof my land lying between the Main Road and Scape Ore Swamp. Also,the tract of land I purchased from John Crosswell and the Tract Ibrought of my son, Simon Stuckey, adjoining Mrs Spaulings Land alsonine Negroes by the names of Abel, Everet, Fanny, Reuben, Lacey,Elizer, Leah, Demas & Amos. Also, my cotton gin and blacksmithtools & my wagon & four horses & cart & wheels. Ialso give to my son, Howel, all the property I lent to my wife abovementioned after her marriage or death.

 

Item I give to my daughter, Tempy, ten dollarsbesides what I have already given her.

 

Item I give to my daughter, Abba, four Negroes bethe name of Dick, John, Mary and Vina.

 

Item I do hereby leave all the rest of my propertythat is not above mentioned such as horses, cattle, hogs, sheep,geese, beds, crop and other articles too tedious to mention to beequally divided between Hardy Stuckey, Edmund Stuckey, Howel Stuckey,and William Peebles. And I do hereby leave Edmund Stuckey, HardyStuckey, Howel Stuckey and William Peebles, Executors, to this mylast will and testament.
