WILL OF FRANCIS TISDALE

I Francis Tisdale of Sumter District South Carolina, Planter, being sick, but of sound mind, do make this my last will and testament as follows, to wit,

Firs,t I devise that my estate real and personal be divided between my six children as follows

To wit, as they respectively come of age or marry, the first that comes of age or marries to have of his or her share the balance of the estate to remain together then the next one that comes of age or marries to have his or her share, and so through out my children, and so that, after one receives of his or her part they are to have no more in case of the death of any of the other children not apportioned off but the benefit of survivorship to be restricted to those who are not apportioned off.

It is my wish that my Plantation and Mill be carried on as heretofore as for as circumstances will permit, that from the proceeds of my plantation and such stock as may be raised, my children be supported during their single state in minority.

It is my wish that my sons, but put out to such mechanical trades as they appear to have a turn and capacities for

Should it be necessary to sell any of my negroes to pay my debts, I direct Jack to be sold –

I do hereby nominate and appoint Joseph Denson and Peter Mellett executors hereof and Guardian of my Children. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty eight day of September A. D. 1823
