WILL OF JOSEPH BARTON WHITE

In the name of God, amen, I Joseph B. White of thesaid District and State being of sound and disposing mind butuncertain of life, hereby declare this to be my last will andtestament, and revoking any other by me heretofore made. In the firstplace, I wish to be decently buried, having lived in the hope ofSalvation through the mediation of the Saviour, who died for ourredemption, I commit my soul to the great Disposer of all, trustingto a blessed immortality. To my son Joseph White, I give and bequeathmy watch with gold chain and seal attached thereto. To my belovedwife Maria H. White, I leave during her life or widowhood, which evermay first terminate, the use of my plantation situate, lying andbeing on the Main road leading from Sumterville to Camden, includingall the buildings thereon, with the exception of 60 or 70 acres, Ihave loaned to my son Anthony White for several years past, with theright to my said wife to use from the said tract, firewood and timberfor building, and for other purposes on the said plantation. To myson Anthony, I loan the use of the said Sixty or Seventy acres ofland above described, so long as my said wife Maria H. White shouldremain my widow or should live, and at the expiration of herwidowhood, or at her death if that should first happen, it is my willand desire that the whole of the said tract of land, including thatportion so loaned to my son Anthony, be sold by my executors for cashor on credit, at public or private sale as in their judgment may bedeemed best, and I hereby authorize their in such case, to executesufficient titled to the purchaser thereof the money arising from thesaid sale, I direct and will shall be equally divided, share andshare alike, among all my grandchildren surviving the event, upon theoccurrence of which, I have above directed the sale of the said landand the receipt of the proceeds, of the said sale, by mygrandchildren respectively, as aforesaid, is to be on the expresscondition that it is in lieu of any claim or claims, which they ortheir parents respectively may have against me on any accountwhatsoever, except upon notes of land, or demands for purchased madein stores. I give, devise and bequeath to my said wife Maria H.White, absolutely, all the remaining portion of my estate, both realand personal that I may be possessed of at my death---including RailRoad and Bank stock, dividends of stock due me, money on hand, cropgrowing or gathered, choses in action, and every kind of propertywhatsoever, with full power to dispose of the same according to herwill and pleasure-charging upon the property devised and bequeathedin this clause the payment of all my just debts.---I nominate andappoint my said wife Maria H. White executrix of this my last willand testament. In witness whereof, I the said Joseph B. White havehereunto set my hand, this twenty third day of May-----In the year ofour Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six.
