Will of Thomas R. English

            In the name of God Amen.  I Thomas R. English Clergyman of the State and District aforesaid being now in usual health and soundness of mind, but remembering my mortality and the uncertainty of life do make and ordain this my last will and testament herby revoking all other s by me heretofore made by me.  I commend my soul to God Father and my body to the dirt from whence it Sprung.  I desire that nothing but a plain slab shall be erected such as my dear wife may judge to be proper. (2) I desire that all my just debts shall be paid as soon after my decease as may be convenient.  (3) I give and bequeath to my two granddaughters Ella and Annie Daughters of Robert W. English Seventy five acres each of a certain tract of land called the Lasos Tract and marked on a plat of land in my possession having 393 acres more or less.  This legacy to my grand children shall include the improvements on that tract.  Should either of them die without leaving any issue then I desire her share to go to her sister and Should both die without issue the I desire the land to go to my grandchildren in Texas the children of my Son Thomas White Stephenson deceased (4) I give and bequeath one hundred and Sixty acres of the Lasos tract to my grandchildren in Texas children of my son Thomas White Stephenson deceased as aforesaid to be sold for the benefit of their education.  If in the judgment of my wife it be ………………………(5) I give and bequeath all my land lying north of the sound leading from Black River by Mr. Josiah Luckey’s to divided equally between thus my four youngest daughters Jane, Mattie Mary, and Emma (6) I give and bequeath to my beloved wife three hundred and twenty acres of land including my residence and improvements during her natural life, also my carriage and pair of horses, two cows and calves, two sows and pigs, poultry together with my household and kitchen furniture to be used as she may think proper (7) I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Reese at his mothers death the land and improvements left to her during her natural life also one Bay Horse named Tom, my watch Spectacles, Gold pencil, walking cane, and clock that was my fathers.  It is desired by me that my son Thos Reese shall live with his mother but should he decide otherwise then I desire him to have the use of 100 acres of the land left to my wife.  And should my son Thomas Reese die without leaving any lawful children then I desire the land to him at his Mother’s death to be sold and the proceeds divided among all my heirs  (8) I desire that remaining land and perishable property not named in this will shall be sold and the proceeds divided between my daughters Jane Sarah Frances Carolina & Eliza or their heirs (9) I appoint my beloved wife executrix of this my last will and testament in the confident hope that she will faithfully carry out its provisions, In Testimony hereof I have this day set my hand and seal being the 31st day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Sixty Six and ninetieth of American Independence.
