Last Will and Testament of Elihu Hodge

 

In the name of God Amen.  I Elihu Hodge of the County of Sumter and State of South Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this fair and transitory life do therefore make and ordain and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.  That is to say: I will give, bequeath and dispose of all my Real Estate and Personal Property; as follows.

To my beloved wife Sophronia Hodge, all my lands and buildings situated thereon known as the Home Place, together with all household and kitchen furniture that I may have, my Wagon, and all stock, such as horses, mules, cattle, and hogs; during the term of her natural life, and after her decease to be divided equally between my Son William J. Hodge, and Charlotte Norton, and I do herby revoke all former Wills by me made.  I herby appoint my Son W.J. Hodge Executor of this my last Will and Testament.  In witness hereof I have hereby subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 20th day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Eighty Four.  Signed, sealed, and delivered in the presence of these witnesses.
