EDWARD LEE REICHERT

Edward Lee Reichert, b August 6, 1919 in Mart, McLennan County, Texas - was the only child of Paul Henry and Mabelle Laurea (Rogers) Reichert. He attended the public schools of Rosebud after his parents and cousin moved to Falls County in 1924, and graduated with honors in 1936.

Edward's youth was occupied with the Boy Scouts of America, under the leadership of Byron Stubbs; and he participated on the Debate and Declamation teams under the guidance of Miss Mary Lee - his English Teacher - who married Mr. Stubbs. He was also active in school sports, as well as scholastics. On graduation, Edward received both an art and a scholastic scholarship from The University of Texas in Austin, which he attended from 1936 to 1941, having earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree and scholarships for further education.

Settling in Houston in 1941, Edward was commissioned Ensign, U .S.N .R. on May 29, 1942, training at The University of Arizona. On January 14, 1943 in Houston, Texas, he married Elizabeth Ora Black, b December 24, 1922 - a daughter of Benjamin Dyer and Lillie Florence (Smith) Black. Edward left the next month for overseas service (February 1943-December 1945). He was in Naval Intelligence Photographics and in combat service in the Asian-Pacific and American Theaters, being the recipient of five service stars and the Presidential Unit Citation (service with the Photographic Squadron VD.3 in the Central Pacific).

When World War II was over, Edward returned to Houston, where in 1947 he became a Registered Architect of Texas. He has been a member of the National Architectural Organization since 1974. He practiced his profession with major Houston firms until February 1985, and is still a consultant for them.

In December 1984, Edward L. Reichert, Inc. was organized for his visual art, writing, design consultation, and the photographic work of his talented wife, Elizabeth (Black) Reichert. Edward formulated an architectural handbook which has been used as a model for large organizations, as well as its being published in German.

Commissioned to design the 100 plate-glass panels and pre-Tiffany sanctuary windows for the fire-ravaged First Methodist Church in Houston, Reichert wrote a book entitled, "Windows Sharing God's Caring," jointly published with the First Methodist Church and illustrated by Elizabeth Reichert.

Edward L. Reichert's paintings have been exhibited at The University of Texas in Austin, The Cappini Academy of Fine Arts in San Antonio, as well as by Art Leagues and personal shows in Houston, Salado, Willis, Beaumont, and other Texas locations.

Memorial portraits of Mary Lee Stubbs (June 1981), and of Byron Stubbs (1983) were gifts to the D. Brown Memorial Library in Rosebud, by Edward Lee Reichert.

Edward L. and Elizabeth (Black) Reichert are the parents of four children:
