Note the painted picture of Jesus which was above the door in earlier pictures is now gone. A picture of a grapevine that I know has been there at least 50 years. I played on this grapevine when I was a kid and I still see kids climbing and swinging on its vines as late as Memorial Day Sunday of this year (2005). I bet every kid that visited Power's Chapel will recognize these grapevines and recall fond memories of climbing and swinging on them. Also visible in this picture is the back of Power's Chapel, the metal frames where tables are set up for the big Memorial Day celebration every year and the cemetery headstones way across the street in front of Power's Chapel. Notice the new cross on front.
photos taken February 2007, submitted by Larry W. Johnson

It's believed John Weldon Pearson is the person most responsible for putting this list together. Although, severely injured in a farm accident, for years John Pearson played a big part in the upkeep and improvements to the Power's Chapel & Cemetery and he was well known for being the area's local historian. John had a lot of family and historical files that he collected over the years and these were deposited with the Rosebud Library. Submitted by Larry W. Johnson

This one is a bit confusing. On the Death Certificate it says she died on May 13, 1928 but it also states the Doctor last saw her alive on May 14, 1928. He says he attended her from May 15 - May 16 1928. She was buried on May 16, 1928.

WILCOX Steven D. Dec 29 1859 Aug 13 1887 Little brother of Earl John Wilcox
John and his two brothers rode into central Texas from Georgia during reconstruction and found work on John Butts' farm.
Earl John Wilcox married John Butts' daughter, Elizabeth. He purchased some land and grew a crop and built a little house before proposing.
His brother died at a young age while still working for the Butts and was buried in the Butts' Family plots. My grandmother told me about that ages ago.
Supposedly the original H. E. Butts was John's Butts' brother. John Earl and Elizabeth are both buried in Calvary Cemetery, near the Parton plots in Marlin.
Husband of Elizabeth (Butts) Wilcox. Elizabeth was the daughter of John D. & Sophronia (Gross) Butts.

WILLIAMS Charles A. 1870 Oct 23 1923 Charles was the son of J. C. Williams of the Wilderville community.
Charles was killed in his infamous "duel" in the town of Young and in the barn of T. F. Young, Jr. in Freestone County. The other participant in this folly was Norwood Huckaby. The two men had apparently been friends for a very long time before something happened that fractured that friendship. The investigating sheriff was David Terry. Just prior to this debacle, Charles had lived for a while in Navarro. He was born in 1870 in Milam County and died 23 Oct. 1923.
The Family Bible notes that he was married 3 Jan. 1901.
