A GREAT WORK FOR GRAYSON COUNTY
Last week the Gazetteer mentioned receiving a call from the Misses E. Kathryn Jones and Laura N. McCaw, who were in our city gathering the necessary information for the production of an atlas for Grayson County.  This week they were joined by Miss Minnie L. Sharp, and the three will remain in Denison several days, or until the weather moderates so that they can assume the work in the country.  Eight young ladies have been engaged for this work.  They are in the employ of Brown & Jackson, well known map publishers of St. Joseph, Missouri.  The atlas which this firm proposes to issue will be an elaborate one.  Separate maps, printed in colors, will be devoted to each precinct, drawn to scale and showing all the roads, rural postal routes, location of churchs and school houses, and the names of heads of families, their occupation, and all other information found in the most
complete works of this character.  Each incorporated town in the county will receive special consideration.  Double page maps will be devoted to the larger towns, and these and all others will be carefully drawn to scale, showing all the details, the location of public buildings, etc.  Men competent for the work will be employed to prepare historical and descriptive sketches of various sections, and the book will be made more attractive by illustrations in city and country of public buildings, private residences, etc., and likenesses of distinguished citizens.  The gathering of the material for this great work will employ these 8 young ladies probably a year.  The atlas will be 15-1/2" by 17-1/2", and contain between 150 and 200 pages in elegant binding.  Mr. Snell, of Sherman, has been engaged to do the photographic work for the engravings.  This will be the first elaborate county atlas made for Texas, but the firm expects to cover the state as fast as possible.
The young ladies having this work in hand are pleased with the encouragement they are meeting with in Sherman and Denison, and already have a large list of subscribers for the atlas in both towns.  Such a work has long been needed, and our citizens fully appreciate the fact.  The Gazetteer is confident the firm who have the work in charge will received a liberal patronage.
