Gene and Glenneth Watson


Gene was born August 27, 1914 in Whitesboro, Texas, son of
Hannie and Lola Siebert Watson of Whitesboro, who are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.  
Gene was preceded in death by one sister, Leola, who was born in 1910 and passed away in 1913, and by one brother, Van Watson, who was born in 1905 and passed away in 1999. Both are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.

Glenneth was born May 9, 1918, at Basin Springs, daughter of Grover Cleveland Dossey and Alice Tharp Dossy of Sadler, who are buried in the
Basin Springs Cemetery.
 Glenneth was preceded in death by three brothers: James Alton Dossey passed away July 15, 1988, and is buried in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas; Wayne Dossey, who was born June 6, 1923, and who passed away Novemeber 24, 1994; and G.C. Dossey, Jr, who was born in 1926 and passed away in 1927, are buried in the Basin Springs Cemetery. A sister, Lois Dossey Upchurch, lives in Hugo Oklahoma.

Gene Watson and Glenneth Dossey were married in 1935 in Oklahoma. They had eight children:
  • James E. (Eddie), born Octobert 30, 1935 at Whitesboro
  • David Leon (Dutch)
  • Twins - Robert Dale and Peggy Ann
  • Travis Jay
  • Mary Jane
  • Donald Lee, born February 6, 1946 at Fort Worth
  • Dinah
They had nineteen grandchildren.

Gene and Glenneth were active in the Christian Church all their married life.  Gene was a residential construction contractor for most of his life, but before that, during World War II, he worked in a bomber manufacturing plant in California and for Globe Aircraft Manufactuing in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Gene loved music, and played in a band with his father and his brother, Van, for many years. He loved sports and was active in minor league baseball.

Gene loved archery and hunting, competing in many archery tournaments and going on many hunting trips with his sons. Gene also loved gardening and became quite expert at growing strawberries.

Glenneth was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved quilting and cooking. Every granchild received a handmade quilt for high school graduation. She also loved sports, and as a young girl, she played on her school's basketball team.

In 1964, Gene and Glenneth moved to Oxon Hill, Maryland, where he continued construction work. In the late 1980's, they moved back to Texas. They located in Eastland, Texas, where their daughter Peggy lived, for about a year, and then they moved to Baird, Texas, where their son Robert lived. Glenneth's health problems required nursing home care until her death in 1991. Gene lived in Baird after that until his death in 1998.

Their youngest son, Donald Lee, passed away April 8, 1998, from Lou Gerig's disease. Their oldest son, Eddie, passed away January 1, 2007, and is buried in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.
