Annette Alberty

Houston—Annette Alberty, 27, of Houston died Friday at a Clear Lake hospital as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Miss Alberty was a member of the Thomas Avenue Baptist Church in Pasadena. She was assistant sales manager of Plantowsky’s Furniture Co. in Houston.

Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Monday at the Pasadena Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Arnold Jennings will officiate.

Graveside services will be at 2 p. m. Monday at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita.

She is survived by her parents, Lawrence and Hope Alberty of Pasadena; two brothers, Robert and Phillip Alberty of Pasadena; and a grandmother, Mrs. Jean Thedford of Lolita.

Of lieu of the usual remembrances the family requests that memorial donations be made to Thomas Avenue Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 2401 E. Thomas, Pasadena, Texas, 77506.

Larry Alberty

Pasadena—Larry Alberty, 59, of Pasadena and a former resident of the Victoria area, died Monday in a Houston hospital.

Born April 20, 1929, in Creek County, Okla., to Lee and Edna Mae McCannon Alberty, he was a retired supervisor for Velsicol Chemical Corp. Mr. Alberty was a member of First Baptist Church of Pasadena.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p. m. Wednesday at Pasadena Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Landrum officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p. m. in Lolita at the Red. Bluff Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Meadows officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Thedford Alberty of Pasadena; two sons, Robert and Phillip Alberty, of Pasadena; three brothers, Allen Alberty of Shindler, Okla., Jack Alberty of Dumas, Texas, and Carl Alberty of Guymon, Okla.; four sisters, Lucille Hutchinson of Valley View, Calif., LeEtta Dillow of Braman, Okla., Doris Hill of Guymon, Okla., and Creda Givons of Virginia; and a granddaughter.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bernice Allen

Bernice Allen, 69, passed away on Jan. 3, 2019. She was born Sept. 15, 1949 in Edna to Ernest and Inese Rucker Lawson.     She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Cook, Mary Ida Carter and Melveria Dees; brothers, Lowell, Wesley, Aaron, and J.T. Lawson.     To cherish her memory she leaves her husband, LaSalle Allen; sisters, Lillie Robinson and Sybil Napier; brother Morris Lawson; and a host of other relatives and friends.     Visitation will be held Friday., Jan. 11, from  5-8 p.m. at Cook-Butler Funeral Home in Edna. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with burial to follow at Mt. Bertha Darlene Allen

Lolita—Bertha Darlene Allen, 56, of Lolita, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Norwalk, Calif. She was born on Jan. 11, 1953, in East Los Angeles to Sylvia Allen of Lolita and the late Harvey R. Allen. She was a secretary and was a member of Lolita VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Mustang Squares.

She is survived by her mother, sisters, Connie Kleckner and husband, Gilbert, Francine Bozarth and husband Bill, and Guynell Miller and husband Steve, all of Los Angeles; and nephew, William Bozarth of Aurora, Colo.

Viewing will be from 8 a. m. to 2 p. m. today, with family visitation from 12:30 to 2 p. m. at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna.

There will be a private burial at Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita.

David Stone Allen

Lolita—David Stone Allen, 50, of Lolita, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999.

He was born Feb. 23, 1948, in Ganado, to the late J. P. and Theo Jane Hamilton Allen. He was a retired maintenance mechanic for Industrial Independent School District. He was a member of First Baptist church of Lolita.

Survivors: wife, Mary Jane Allen of Lolita.

Preceded in death by brother, Jimmy Allen.

Visitation will be 7 p. m. Monday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p. m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Lolita, the Rev. Gene Rice and Ron Thompson officiating.

George Allen Sr.

The Rev. George Allen Sr., 92, of Edna, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005.

He was born May 5, 1913, in Ganado, to the late Jim and Virginia Young Allen. He was a retired cement fabricator for Wells-Wright Inc. and a member of Prosperity Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughter, Yolanda Robinson of Edna; sons, LaSalle Allen and George Allen Jr. both of Houston, Loyal Allen, Floyd Allen and Roosevelt Allen, all of Edna; sisters, Linda Fields of Edna, Ester Lee Edwards and Lorena Mae Griffin both of Ganado; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Esdell Griffin Allen; son, Louis Allen; and brothers, James Allen, Joe Allen, and Joshua Allen.

Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 8 p. m. Friday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Esdell Allen

Edna—Esdell Allen, 83, of Edna died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997.

She was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Edna to the late Jim and Bitha Hayes Griffin. She was a homemaker and a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church where she served as president of the Communion Stewards.

Survivors: husband, the Rev. George Allen; daughter, Youlanda Allen of Edna; sons, LaSalle Allen, George Allen and Loyal Allen, all of Houston, and Floyd Allen and Roosevelt Allen, both of Edna; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: son, Louis Allen.

Services will be 1 p. m. today at Scruggs United Methodist Church, the Rev. Billy Yeang officiating.

Harvey R. Allen

Lolita—Harvey Reginald Allen, 81, of Lolita and formerly of California, died Sunday, May 10, 1998.

He was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Yoakum, to the late James Harvey and Annie Ridgway Allen. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was an independent boat builder/repairman and was a member of Lolita First Baptist Church and VFW No. 8556.

Survivors: wife, Sylvia Winton Allen; daughters, Connie Kleckner of Paramount, Calif., Darlene Allen of Lolita, Francine Bozarth of Downey, Calif., and Guynell Bozarth of Bell Gardens, Calif., sister, Dorothy Alexander of Richmond; brother, Sam Allen of Lolita; and one grandson.

Services will be 10 a. m. Thursday, at Lolita Baptist Church, the Revs. Steve Sutton and Ron Thompson officiating.

James Paul “Jim” Allen Jr.

Lolita—James Paul “Jim” Allen, 45, of Lolita, died Saturday in a Victoria hospital.

He was born Dec. 10, 1941, in Ganado, son of Mrs. Theo Allen of Lolita and the late J. P. Allen.  A former self-employed farmer, he had been a coach in Seagoville, Spearman, New Home, Corpus Christi and Ganado. He had served as athletic director at Ganado and New Home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lolita.

He married the former Nona Telford on Sept. 1, 1962 in Freer.

Surviving are his wife, Nona Allen of Lolita; his mother, Mrs. J. P. Allen of Lolita; a daughter, Chris Allen of Corpus Christi; a son, Cory Allen of Lolita; and two brothers, John Allen and David Allen, both of Lolita.

Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Lolita with the Rev. Roy Meadows and the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating.

Masonic graveside services will follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Ganado Masonic Lodge No. 1055.

Pallbearers will be Bud Zimmerman, Jerry Hall, Tom Morris, O’Daniel Klimitchek, Bobby Moseley, Paul Spree and John Sullivan.

Mrs. Lola Allen

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Allen, 56, of Edna will be held at 11 a. m. Monday at Scruggs Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Harrison officiating.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery near Edna under direction of the Cook-Butler Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Charles Haynes, I. V. Inghram, Ernon Inghram, Ronny Moore and Lincoln Owne Gipson. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Gipson, Wayne Patterson, James D. Harris, Thomas Dean and Loyal Stafford.

Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Jackson County. She died Saturday in a Galveston Hospital.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Miller of Edna and Mrs. Angeline Moore of Houston; and a brother, Ernon Inghram of Edna.

Richard S. Allen

Inez—Richard Stone Allen, 66, of Inez died Monday, Nov. 16, 1992.

He was born July 23, 1926 in Lolita to the late James Harvey and Annie Ridgeway Allen. He was a retired truck driver for Hercules Trucking Co. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors: daughters, Jill Allen of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Alexander of Victoria and brothers, Harvey Allen and Sam Allen, both of Lolita.

Samuel F. Allen

Lolita—Samuel Fredrick Allen, 80, of Lolita, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001.

He was born June 29, 1921, in Vanderbilt, to the late James Harvey and Annie Irene Ridgway Allen. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in WWII. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of First Baptist Church of Lolita.

Survivors: wife, Mabelle C. Hamilton Allen; daughter, Janie Riddle of Lolita; sons, Samuel F. Allen II of Richwood and Carl Allen of Lolita; sister, Dorothy Alexander; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Frances Stewart and Bertha Allen; and brothers, Velmer Allen, Wille E. “Dock” Allen, Henry Burns, Lynn Burns, Harvey Allen, J. P. Allen, Calvin Allen and Richard Allen.

Sylvia Ellen Allen

South Gate, Calif.—Sylvia Ellen Allen, 85, of South Gate, Calif., formerly of Lolita, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 in Hawaiian Gardens, Calif. She was born July 13, 1924 in Wellington. She was a homemaker and a member of the Delvers Gem and Mineral Society, VFW Auxiliary, Lolita Post 8556, and Jackson County Museum.

She is survived by her daughters, Guynell Miller and husband Steve of South Gate, Calif., Connie Kleckner and husband Gilbert of Downy, Calif., and Francine Bozarth and husband Bill of Paramont, Calif.; brother, Carl Winton of Marble Falls; and grandson, William Bozarth and wife Dawn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Reginald Allen, and daughter, Darlene Allen.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p. m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna. The funeral service will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the chapel with the Rev. Gene Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita.

Theo Jane Allen

Lolita—Theo Jane Allen, 72, longtime resident of Lolita, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1991, in Victoria following a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Red Bluff to the late John and Jane Hamilton-Hamilton and married J. P. Allen Feb. 11, 1941, in Rosenberg. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church of Lolita and the AARP, and a past member of Eastern Star.

Survivors: daughter, Nona Allen of Lolita; sons, John and David Allen of Lolita; sisters, Mabel Allen and Adelle Sutton of Lolita, Willie Ann Clement of Fort Worth and Maurine Schulze of Boling; brothers, Norman Hamilton of Guymon, Okla. and Darvis Hamilton of Lolita; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband, J. P. Allen on May 13, 1984; a son, Jim Allen; and two brothers, R. E. and Tommy Hamilton.

Janice Amason

Edna—Janice Amason, 72, of Edna died Monday, July 20, 1997.

She was born July 22, 1924, in Damon to the late Walter J. and Alice Halewin Langston. She was a cashier for Wyatt’s Cafeteria and a member of Morales Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughters, Joyce Mutina of Edna, Mary Spencer and Alice Smith, both of Levelland and Peggy Sbrusch of Needville; son, William DuBose of Edna; sisters, Thelma Jones of Alvin and Helen Vance of Angleton; brother, Walter Langston of Angleton; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by: husband, Jesse James Amason; a son, Jesse James Amason Jr.; and brothers, J. W. Langston and Hiller Pete Langston.

Elizabeth Rose Baker Amestoy

Elizabeth Rose Baker Amestoy, age 86, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 14, 1932. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend, affectionately known as “Betsy” grew up in Edna, where she graduated from Edna High school in 1951 and moved to San Antonio where she worked at the Gunter Hotel.

Soon after she met and married her husband, Manuel, in 1952 and went on to raise five children. They were happily married for 35 years until his death in 1987. Betsy loved her family and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed researching family history, traveling and going to the symphony with her friends. Her deep faith in God and a wonderful outlook on life is an inspiration for all of us. We will miss her so much and we are blessed to have had her as a part of our lives.

Betsy is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Frank Amestoy Sr.; daughter, Gina Marie Amestoy; parents, Otis Gordon Baker, Jr. and Kathryn (Allen) Baker; and brothers, Gordon Allen Baker and William Michael Baker.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kathryn Amestoy Brooks; son, Manuel Frank Amestoy, Jr. (Barbaree); daughter, Heidi Elizabeth Amestoy (Ramsay); son, Sean Christian Amestoy (Stacy); 12 grandchildren, Lisa Thigpen (Jeff), Kyle Brooks (Felicia), Ryan Brooks, Katherine Amestoy (Joe), Marianne Armer (Levi), Cody Amestoy (Camarae), Amanda Honea (Scott), Brittany Allen (Arturo), Brooke Bonds (David), Cole Amestoy, Braden Amestoy and Grace Amestoy; great-grandchildren, JR, Julius and Jaleena Taylor, Luke Honea, Hadley and Quinn Bonds and Colton Amestoy.

Services were held in San Antonio on Monday and Tuesday, February 18 and 19.

Gerald Amsbaugh

Lolita—Gerald “Jerry” Amsbaugh, 53, of Lolita died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1993.

He was born April 6, 1939 in Ashton, Ohio to Mildred Lucille Reese and the late Kent Amsbaugh. He worked in operations for Central Power and Light Co. in Point Comfort for 30 years and retired in 1989 from E. S. Joslin Power Plant. He was a member of Lolita Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Carrie Ann Browning Amsbaugh; daughters, Kimberly Jo Amsbaugh of Austin and Patricia Neeley of Edna; sons, Michael Bryan Amsbaugh of Greenville, N. Albert John Anders

Edna—Albert John Anders, 76, of Edna, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Victoria. He was born Oct. 20, 1931 in Edna. He was a tool pusher and driller.

He is survived by his daughter, Mandy Carlston of Santa Fe; stepdaughter, Cheryl Howard of Edna; sister, Vida Button of Wichita Falls; and brother, William “Bill” Holstein Jr. of Inez.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ronald Mark "Buddy" Anders

Vanderbilt--Ronald Mark "Buddy" Anders died on June 15, 2014.

He was born in Ganado, TX to the late Jack and Dorothy Anders. Employed at Alcoa for 33 years, he then retired and went to work with HESCO. Buddy was employed there until his auto accident. He served as an Elder in the Community Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt. Buddy was a graduate of Industrial High School and TSTI in Waco. He married his high school sweetheart and together they had three children that were his pride and joy. Buddy was a devoted husband and father. He will be remembered for his big smile, friendliness, and willingness to help others. God called Buddy home on Father's Day; this was a fitting end to the life of a man that dedicated a lifetime to serving his family.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra Matak Anders along with his children, Sheneil Roberts (Dave), of Leander, TX, Shawna Anders of San Antonio, TX, and Evan Anders of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Braylon and Elise Roberts of Leander, TX; four siblings, Pricilla Coker (Edgar) of Port Lavaca, TX, Marilyn Bryan of Corpus Christi, TX, Mike Anders (Nora) of Baytown, TX, and Pat Anders (Sandra) of Cuero, TX; two brother-in-laws, Willie Matak (Suzanne) of Inez, TX and Ken Matak (Pat) of Edna, TX.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 6-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Edna with Rev. James Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita.

Pallbearers will be Willie Matak, Ken Matak, Pat Anders, Mike Anders, Brady Anders and Leslie Coker.

The family extends their sincerest thanks to Buddy's caregivers, Sissy Barnes, Valeria Aquirre, Dorothy Martinez, Lorie Soto, and Carolina Joines. They took loving care of him for 6 years.

Ella Mae Hessong Anderson

Ella Mae Hessong Anderson, 70, of Edna, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Victoria, Texas. She was born April 17, 1948 to Louis and Minnie Hessong in Victoria.

Ella was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother and sister. Throughout her life she enjoyed her animals, fishing, camping, gardening and the families that she cleaned houses for. One of the greatest accomplishments in her life was overcoming her alcoholism, she was sober for 20 years.

Ella was a housewife, custodian for the Morales Baptist Church and others, and also a caregiver.

She is survived by her daughter Tammy (James) Ricks; son Archey Anderson; grandchildren Erica Ricks (Shane Ruzicka), Melissa Stetler, David Paulsen, Cody Anderson, Kayla Anderson Woods (Henry); great-granddaughter Emma; sisters, Betty Jerkins, Martha Kudelka, and Pat Seabolt.

Ella is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie, and daughter-in-law Tracey.

Pallbearers will be James Ricks Jr.,  Wallace Wysong Sr., Butch Bryan, Cody Anderson, Shane Ruzicka and Nick Gregg.

There will be a graveside service at Speaks Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25 with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating.

Boyd Arkadie Jr.

Edna—Boyd Arkadie Jr., 36, of Edna, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000.

He was born July 4, 1964, in Ganado, to Mary Lee Johnson Arkadie of Edna and the late Boyd Arkadie Sr. He was a retired maintenance man and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors: mother; sisters, Mary Ann Jones, Alice Prince, Linda Edwards and Sandra Kay Jones, all of Edna and Joyce Earls of El Campo; foster brothers, Clarence Perkins and Anthony Perkins, both of Corpus Christi.

Preceded in death by father.

Visitation will be 1 to 9 p. m. today at Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. G. L. Roberts officiating.

Edna—Boyd Arkadie Sr., 67, of Edna, died Thursday, June 18, 1998.

He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Ganado to the late Elroy and Pearl Houston Arkadie. He was a retired truck driver and member Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Mary Lee Arkadie; daughter, Sandra Arkadie of Edna; step-daughters, Mary Jones, Alice Prince and Linda Edwards, all of Edna, Joyce Earls of El Campo and Wanda Drake of Corpus Christi; son Boyd Arkadie of Edna; step-sons, Anthony Perkins and Clarence Perkins, both of Corpus Christi; sisters, Elby Tutson, Vivian Johnson and Roberta Jordan, all of Houston; brothers, Edward Arkadie of Edna and Ernest Arkadie and Jack Arkadie, both of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jack Arkadie

Jack Evans Arkadie 79, passed away on May 7, 2013. He was born August 7, 1933 to the late Elroy Arkadie and Pearl Houston Arkadie.

Jack is survived by his sisters, Vivian Arkadie Johnson, Roberta Arkadie Jordan, and brothers, Boyd Arkadie Sr., Edward Arkadie and Ernest Arkadie.

In addition to his parents Jack is preceded in death by his sister Elby Tuson, and brother Elroy Arkadie Jr.

Visitation was at Cook-Butler Funeral Home in Edna on Friday, May 10 from 3 – 8 p. m.

The funeral service was on May 11 at 1 p. m. on Mount Olive Baptist Church, burial followed at Kerr Cemetery.

Mary Lee Arkadie, 77, of Edna, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012. She was born June 6, 1934 in Edna to the late Willie and Elnora Brown Johnson. She was a member of Pure Light Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jones of Edna, Linda Edwards of Victoria, Alice Prince of Edna, Sandra Kay Jones of Edna, and Joyce Holloway of El Campo; grandchildren, Carol Jones, Richard Earls, Desmond Earls, Wayne Earls, Lawrence Prince Jr., Denise Robinson, Cedrick Jones, and Dorsett Jones; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd Arkadie Sr.; sons, Russell Jones and Boyd Arkadie Jr.; brother, Leroy Johnson; and grandson, Don Prince.

Edna—Omega Arcadie, 67, of Edna died Monday, June 27, 1994.

She was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Edna to the late Isaac and Ethel Jackson Barnes. She was a retired custodian for Edna Independent School District. Mrs. Arkadie was a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church.

Survivors: husband, Edward Arkadie; daughters, Rosetta Tyler of San Antonio and Rosie Lee Gilbert of Houston; sons, Dexter Arkadie of Prairie View; sisters, Olean Boston of Ganado and Annie Adams of Edna; brother, George Barnes of Edna; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ruby Ashley

Victoria—Ruby Rose Robinson Ashley, 64, of Victoria, formerly of Edna, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Victoria.

She was born July 20, 1942, in Edna, to the late Elmo and Mattie Ross Robinson. She was a LVN.

Survivors: daughter, Lisa Yolanda Ashley of Columbus, OH; and sister, Brenda Robinson of Edna.

Preceded in death by brothers, Carther Robinson, Dan Robinson, and Mayon Robinson, and sisters, Bertha Grant, Lorain Robinson, Elvia Bates, Alice Price, Julia Robinson, Josie Callis, and Mary Thompson.

Services will be 10 a. m. today at Shiloh Baptist Church of Edna with the Rev. Fred Hobbs, Rev. Gary Roberts, and Pastor officiating.
