Irvine Harrold Hebel

Funeral services for Irvine Harrold Hebel, 71, were held Nov. 1 at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Hebert officiating. Interment followed at Ashby Cemetery.

Hebel, a resident of Palacios for 60 years, was born June 15, 1914 in Mabank, Texas and died Oct. 29, 1985 at Wagner General Hospital. He was the son of James John and Josephenia Langer Hebel.

Survivors include three sisters, Nellie Hennen of Buna, Texas, Della Colvin of San Antonio and Bethel Henson of Palacios; and two brothers, Herbert Hebel of McRae, Arkansas and Jess Hebel of Palacios.

Pallbearers were Arl G. Hunt, John R. Hunt, Robert Craig Henson, Paul N. Hunt, George Parsley and William W. Hunt.

Funeral Services For James John Hebel Held Here Wednesday

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, April 10, at the Palacios Funeral Home for James John Hebel, who died April 8. Rev. T. W. Goines officiated. Burial was in the Ashby Cemetery.

Mr. Hebel was born June 28, 1860 in Austria, Hungary.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Nellie Helner?, Buna, Texas; Mrs. Delah Colvin, San Antonio; Mrs. May Hunt, Mrs. Bethel Henson and Mrs. Leola Turner, Palacios; three sons, Herbert Hebel, McRae, Ark., Jess Hebel and I. H. Hebel, Palacios.

Dovie Lee Hejtmanek
(January 2, 1931 - February 6, 2007)

Dovie Lee Hejtmanek, 76 of Ashby, passed away peacefully in her home on February 6, 2007. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Markham and lived in the Ashby area all her life. Along with her three sisters, Dovie was raised by her beloved father Gene during tough times. She grew up in Ashby, graduated from Blessing High School in 1948, and married George Hejtmanek on June 22, 1948. They built a good life farming and raised a happy and close-knit family. She was well known for her tenacious spirit in dealing with kidney disease for most of her adult life, and never let it hold her back from hosting four generations of her family for the holidays. Her beautiful smile will never be forgotten by the many people who love her.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Hejtmanek of Ashby, children George Hejtmanek, Jr. and wife Barbara of Houston, Ronald Hejtmanek and wife Beverly of Austin, and Cheryl Horne and husband Michael of Sugar Land, grandchildren Erin Althaus, Jennifer Kriskey, Steven, Rachel, Russell, and Randall Hejtmanek, Meagan and Michael Horne, great-grandchildren, Preston and Emerson Althaus, and Abigail Kriskey. She is also survived by her half-brother Herbert Legg, Jr.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Eugene Spoor and Ethel Legg, sisters Jeannine Vaut, Elaine Winn, and Marilyn Chambless. She was also preceeded in death by her grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Hejtmanek.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Reverends Andy and Janell Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers include Brian Althaus, Steven Hejtmanek, Glenn Jurek, Russell Corporon, Louis Hejtmanek & Paul Vaut. Honorary pallbearers include Erin Althaus, Jennifer & Thomas Kriskey, Rachel, Russell & Randall Hejtmanek, Meagan & Michael Horne, and Erin, Emily & Mary Rochford.

GEORGE WILLIAM HEJTMANEK

Funeral services for George William Hejtmanek, 80, of Ashby, were held Oct. 2, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City with Revs. Andy and Janell Blair officiating. Interment was at Ashby Cemetery.

Mr. Hejtmanek was born on Feb. 14, 1928, in El Maton
, Tx.. He died Sept. 30, 2008.

The youngest of six children, George was raised by his parents, Frank and Albina, on a cotton farm in Ashby during the depression era. He graduated from Blessing
High School in 1945, and, after serving in the U.S. Army, he married Dovie Lee Spoor on June 22, 1948. He started out with a small cotton farm and with hard work, ingenuity, and integrity, became a respected and successful farmer and rancher, receiving numerous awards and recognition. He was also a leader in the community. George was president of the Tidehaven School Board for over 20 years, served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport, and mentored young farmers in the area.

George and Dovie were married for 58 years and raised a happy and close-knit family. He was a loving and involved father and grandfather and was a wonderful role model. His children have fond memories of working with him in the fields, tending the cows, and talking with him. As a grandfather, he treated the kids to pickup rides to see the cows, feeding the catfish, making homemade ice cream, and dressing up as the Easter Bunny. George also loved history, reading, gardening, growing roses, and playing cards and dominoes. He was a good friend and had a generous spirit and a sweet nature. George often said, “I’ve always tried to live by the Golden Rule and treat other people the way I want to be treated.” He succeeded in this and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, George Hejtmanek Jr. and wife Barbara of Houston, Ronald Hejtmanek and wife Beverly of Austin, and Cheryl Horne and husband Michael of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Erin Althaus and husband Brian, Jennifer Kriskey and husband Thomas, Steven, Rachel, Russell, and Randall Hejtmanek, Meagan and Michael Horne; step-grandchildren, Erin Rystad and husband Greg, and Emily and Mary Rochford; great-grandchildren, Preston and Emerson Althaus, and Abigail and Zoe Kriskey. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Jurek and Martha Jane Schimek.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dovie; his parents, Frank J. and Albina Hejtmanek; and siblings, Anna Mae Jurek, Georgia Lostak, and Frank Hejtmanek. He was also preceded in death by his grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Hejtmanek.

Bethel S. Henson

Funeral services for Bethel S. Henson, 81, of Palacios, were held Nov. 24 at 2:30 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Ashby Cemetery in El Maton.

Henson was born September 11, 1909 in Kemp, Texas to Jim and Josephine Langer Hebel. He died November 21, 1990 at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home.

He was a resident of Palacios since 1915.

Survivors include a daughter, Marian Oldham of Spring; sons, Arthur Henson of Clute, Jimmy Henson of Austin and Irvin Henson of Palacios; a sister, Della Colvin of San Antonio; brother, Jess Hebel of Palacios; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Arl Hunt, W. C. McBride, Delbert W. Colvin, James Hebel, Alfred Turner and Jimmy Turner.

Bruce Edward Hicks

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Bruce Edward Hicks, 55, of Bay City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. He was born Nov. 15, 1951 in El Campo, to the late Ira Wayne and Lucille Robertson Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, April Hicks of Bay City; daughters, Mary Louise Cornett and husband Robert Chas of Fort Worth, Elaine Marie Mahar and husband Jasper of Mc Allen, and Hannah June Hicks of Bay City; son, David Hicks of Austin; step-daughter, Rachel Lane Dildy of Wichita, Kan.; step-sons, Jeffrey Henry and Matthew Henry, both of Bay City; sister, Sharon Hicks of El Maton; brothers, Randall Hicks of Bay City, and Dwight Hicks of Alabama; and grandchildren, Jayden Bradley Hicks and Justin, Zack, Kimberley, Darren, Kaylin, and J. J. Mahar.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Henry Bradford, Dwight Hicks, Randall Hicks, Thomas Pivonka, Eric Saha and Bill West.

Ira Hicks

Graveside funeral services for Ira Hicks, 90, of Ashby Community will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 1999 at Ashby Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Clemens of First Baptist Church of Blessing officiating.

There will be a reception immediately following the service at Bruce Hicks' residence in the Ashby Community.

Mr. Hicks died June 15 at Matagorda General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1908 in Louise to William Landrun and Mabel Fathergill Hicks. He was a longtime rice farmer in the El Campo and El Maton areas and he served in the Army Air Corps during the late 1920s.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Lucille Hicks of Ashby Community; son, Randall of Ashby; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Debbie Hicks of Jasper, Ala., and Bruce and Colleen Hicks of Ashby; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tommy Corporon of Collegeport; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Norman and wife, JoAnn Hicks of El Campo and Clifton and wife Zela Mae Hicks of Ruidosa, N. Mex.; and sister, Audrey Mae Sherman of Anahuac, Tex.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Elbert Hicks and sister, Edna Glaze.

Lucille Hicks
July 17, 1918 - Oct. 14, 2006

Graveside services for Lucille Hicks, 88, of Bay City, Texas will be Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Ashby Cemetery in Ashby, Texas.

Mrs. Hicks was born July 17, 1918, and passed away October 14, 2006 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband Ira W. Hicks after 71 years of marriage.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by four children, Randall Hicks (Kay Roe) of Ashwood, Texas, Dwight and Debbie Hicks of Jasper, Alabama, Bruce E. and April Hicks of Ashby, Texas and Sharon Bram of Ashby, Texas. Mrs. Hicks is also survived by eight grandchildren, Wendy Hicks Saha, Russell Hicks, and their mother LaVerne Hicks, Clayton Bram, David Hicks, Jenna Bram Mercer, Mary Hicks Cornett, Elaine Hicks Marar and Drew Hicks. Mrs. Hicks is also survived by nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be From 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October, 17, 2006 in the chapel of Green's Mortuary. Grave side services will be at 10 a.m.

Green's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine Lucille Colvin Hoch

Josephine Lucille Colvin Hoch, known to her family as "Lucille," died peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Town and Country Manor in Boerne, TX. Lucille was born February 3, 1918 in Mabank, TX to the late William and Della Hebel Colvin. When she was a young child, her family moved to Palacios. She graduated from Palacios High School in 1937. She then moved to Washington, D. C. where she completed a paralegal course and worked in a law office. During WWII, she worked in the War Department. She married Nicholas Hoch in 1942 and lived with him until his death in 1988.

She lived much of her adult life in upstate New York. After retirement, she moved to Leon Springs, TX to be nearer her family. She was a member of the Leon Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include: brother, Delbert William Colvin and his wife Doris of Austin; sister, Leola Virginia Colvin Lang and her husband Kenneth of Beaumont; nephews; Robert G. Jr., Gary, and Pat Lewis, Michael and Robert Tarwater; nieces, Pat Walters, Doral Willett, Mary Denison, Martha Agee and Susan Bleil; numerous cousins and other family and friends; also her special friend, Elizabeth Wilcox, and her faithful dog, Shadow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Hoch; sister Laverne Lewis; brother, Virgil James Colvin; and nephew, Virgil James Colvin, Jr.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Williams officiating, and Lucille's cousin, I. W. Henson will provide special music. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery in El Maton. In keeping with her wishes, Lucille will be buried next to her sister, Laverne Colvin Lewis. Pallbearers will be Charles and James Bleil, Gary Lewis, Phil Morton, Robert Tarwater, and Ed Wiley. The family will receive friends at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Mrs. Minnie B. Jett

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Birdie Jett were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Wednesday, January 16, at 3 p. m. with Dr. Cecil M. Hyatt conducting the last rites. Interment was in the Ashby Cemetery.

Mrs. Jett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Lilly, was born July 9, 1874 in Springfield, Ill. A resident of Palacios for 28 years, she died Monday morning, January 14.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. T. B. Parker of Alice, Mrs. Geneva Munoz and Mrs. Gladys Wright of Mission and one sister; Mrs. Worthy Coverdale of Pateidge, Kansas.

William Jett

William Jett, who had passed his fourscore milestone, died at his home in Palacios, Monday, Nov. 4, 1940. He was born May 8, 1860 in Pendleton, Ky. He had lived in and around Palacios the past 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Jett, of Palacios, and four children, Jesse Jett; Mrs. T. B. Parker, Lyford; Mrs. W. E. Wright, Mission; Mrs. Victor Spoor, Palacios, and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. G. F. Gillespie and burial made in the Ashby Cemetery under the direction of the Brandon-Duffy Funeral Home.
