Dinah Mae "D. D." Adams

Sister Dinah Mae "D. D." Adams was born to the union of George and Lucinda Austin in Sargent, Texas. Our beloved sister "D.D." was affectionately loved and known by many.

She left her earthly home on Monday, September 10, 2001, at Clear Lake Humana Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2001, at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd Street, Galveston, Texas, followed by a wake from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2001, at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas with the Reverend Kenneth Bree, Officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery.

She attended grade school in Matagorda County and attended her later years of school in Galveston, Texas.

Her family moved to Galveston in her early teen years. She confessed Christ at an early age, and remained active in many areas of her Church (Shiloh A. M. E.) with her church family and others until her health failed. D. D. was president of the Pastor's Aid, and also a very faithful member of the Usher Board of her church home. She loved her Pastor and church family dearly. "D. D." was
well taken care of by her baby sister and husband (Cuss and Rev. James C. Williams) in her last days.

She was employed with Lipton Tea Company until she retired, and she remained active with the Senior Citizens Aid Organization working in her community.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Austin; her mother, Lucinda Austin; her daughter, Cynthia.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, one son, Rodgers Thymes and wife Mary Louise of Bay City, Texas; five grandsons; Marvin (Yvette), Rogers, Jr. (Tracy), Derrick, Byron (Norlean) and Reginald (Karen); six great granddaughters; two great great grandsons; brother, Johnny (Jane) Austin of Oakland, California; five sisters, Rosie Lee Woodard of Houston, Texas, Ora Lee Small of Berkeley, California, Gertrude Edison of Live Oak, Texas, Mary Louise (Carl) Walton of Dallas, Texas and Rose Marie "Cuss" & (Rev. James C. Williams) of League City, Texas; six aunts, Carrie Lee Phillips of Cedar Lake, Texas, Margaret (Willie) Taylor of Bay City, Texas, Naomi Murphy of Cedar Lane, Texas, Rosa Lee "Gold" Murphy of Rosharon, Texas and Ola and Tina Roberson of Cedar Lake, Texas; uncle, Travis Roberson of Cedar Lake, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dewey Alexander

January 15, 1900 - June 1, 1968

Dewey Alexander, the son of Mary Gee and John Alexander was born January 15, 1900 in Cedar Lake, Texas, Matagorda County. Here he grew up and attended public school. Dewey joined the Bethlehem Christian Church in 1913. He was an active member in the church and served as an usher until his illness.

He married Miss Mineola Brown December 1, 1928. To this union was born three [four?] children, Elery, Dewey, James, and Ola Mae Bell.

Brother Dewey Alexander departed this life Saturday, June 1, at 10:00 a. m.

He leaves to mourn his passing, three children, one stepson, Raymond Spiller, one sister, Annie L. Woodard, one brother, John Alexander, Jr. of California, one uncle, Ben Alexander, twenty-four grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, June 8, 1968, 1:00 p. m., at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas with the Rev. Lloyd Brown officiating.

Pallbearers: Dewey J. Alexander, Elery Alexander, Otis A. Bell, Ben Alexander, Raymond Spiller, Steve Murphy.

Funeral services for Dewey James Alexander, Jr., 70 of Cedar Lake, will be held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake. with the Rev. K. W. Bree eulogist. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p.m. in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born in Cedar Lake, TX, Monday, January 18, 1932, to Dewey Alexander, Sr. and Minnie Ola Brown Alexander, and passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002. His earthly living will be missed by those who loved him.

Survivors include: three daughters, Cynthia Alexander King and Virgil of San Jose, CA, Willie Mae Alexander Randle and Rebecca Alexander Metoyer and Damien, all of Bay City; and three sons, Dewayne Alexander of Houston, Morris Alexander and Anna of Live Oak, and Ruthelious Alexander of Bay City; one sister, Ola Mae Bell and one brother, Elery Alexander and Rebecca, all of Cedar Lake; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives, and a family of friends who knew him as “Dee”.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis Alexander and Dewey Alexander, III.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Minister John L. Alexander

June 28, 1952 - Nov. 4, 2005

Funeral services for Minister John L. Alexander, “Mr. Motion,” 53, of Richwood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas, with the Rev. Kenneth Bree officiating, and the Rev. Lewis Roberson will bring the message.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

He died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas.

He was employed by Dow Chemical for over 28 years before retiring.

He was a 1970 graduate of Van Vleck High School.

He attended and served on the board at Greater Works Ministries in Angleton, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Thomas R. Woodard.

Survivors include: father, Elery Alexander, Cedar Lake; sons, Michael Ward (Danielle) of Humble, Everette Hawkins of Houston, John Alexander of Richwood, and Joel Alexander (Nikkie) of Brazoria; brothers, Wayne Alexander (Catherine) of Houston, and Elery J. Alexander (Rosie) of Cedar Lake; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Albert Smith, Jr., Hollis Woodard, Michael Wyren, James Holmes and Thomas Bernard.

Rebecca Thomas Alexander
March 24, 1934 – June 28, 2003

Rebecca Thomas Alexander, the fifth child of the late Willie Thomas and Mary Woodard Thomas, was born March 24, 1934 in Cedar Lake, Texas.

She attended public school in Cedar Lake, Texas.

At a very young age, she confessed Christ under the pastorship of Rev. R. H. Paige and became a loyal member of the Bethlehem Christian Church. She was a dedicated member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

In 1951, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Elery Alexander. To this union, three sons were born.

Rebecca departed this life on Saturday, June 28, 2003, in Lake Jackson, Texas, Brazosport Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory Elery Alexander, husband; three sons, Wayne Alexander (Catherine) of Missouri City, TX, John Alexander of Richwood, TX, Elery James Alexander (Rosie) of Cedar Lake, TX; nine (9) grandchildren, Michael Ward, John Wayne Alexander, Everett Hawkins, Craig Goodwin, Nena Alexander, Katrina Alexander, Elrosha Alexander, Eleric Anexander, Elery James Alexander, Jr.; nine (9) great-grandchildren; siblings, Amanda Thomas, Emma Thomas, Elisha Thomas, Raleigh Lee Thomas, all of Cedar Lake, Carrie Edison of Cedar Lake, LuElla Spiller of Macedonia; one aunt, Elnora Williams of Brazoria, TX; a foster sister, Annie Lee Paige of Cedar Lake; a play sister, Marie Woodard of Cedar Lake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Two (2) brothers preceded her death: Horace Austin and Albert Smith, Sr.

Rebecca “Woman” Alexander will be missed by all who knew her. We will always remember her warm, kind, free-hearted spirit.

Wayne Harlon Alexander, 70, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Cedar Lake, Texas, passed away January 19, 2020 in Houston.

He was born in Cedar Lake, Texas on October  12, 1949 to Elery Alexander and Rebecca Thomas Alexander.

Visitation and guest book registry will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas, with burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.

Artis Dunn Allen
October 18, 1950 - April 13, 2016

Funeral services for Artis Dunn Allen, 65, of Bay City, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016, at New Hope Baptist Church in Bay City, with Dr. T.L. Richardson, pastor.

Burial will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016, at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, Texas.

Artis Dunn Allen was born to MC and Dorothy V. Allen on October 18, 1950.

At an early age, he was Baptized, and later joined First Sacred Christian Church, under the Rev. Williams.

Artis attended school at Hilliard High School until integration, when he was transferred to Bay City High School, where he graduated in 1969. After graduation, he attended Wharton County Junior College, where he was a student until drafted by the United States Army. He served in active duty from 1971 to 1973, during which time he served as a Military Police Officer and received a Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War. After leaving active duty, he continued to serve his country as a member of the Army Reserve, where he held the rank of Staff Sergeant, before joining the Matagorda County Sherrif’s Department, in 1989. During his tenure with the Matagorda County Sherrif’s Department, he became the first black person to hold the position of Warrant Sergeant, which he held until he fell ill, in 2005. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW).

On April 13, 2016, Artis D. Allen boarded the heavenward bound bus to the house of Our Father.

He leaves behind to celebrate his life, his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Elma Gladys Allen; his four girls, Shemora (Nicholas) Roberson of The Colony, Texas, Shemyra (Larry) Sanford of Kyle, Texas, Lakettra (Christopher) Priestly of Kyle Texas, and Artricia Allen of Beaumont, Texas; his mother, Dorothy V. Allen; his two brothers, Glendale (Carol) Walker of Missouri City, Texas, and Curtis (Katy) Walker of El Campo, Texas; his 11 grandchildren, Michael, Chantz, Christian, Chelsea, Kaleb, Nick, Adriana, Kylie, Kasen, Larry and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren. He shared a loving relationship with his wife’s 14 siblings and a host of other relatives and friends. He also had a special relationship with former co-worker, Steve Baker; his neighbors, Danny Ramirez and Nick Kalisek, and David Green.

He was preceded in death by his father, MC Allen; and his grandparents.

Evelyn Allen
September 5, 1912 – November 19, 1972

In September, 1912, a daughter, Evelyn was born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Murphy in Matagorda County, Cedar Lake, Texas.

At an early age she confessed faith in Christ and became a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas.

Sister Evelyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Patrick Allen. Later in life they moved to Hitchcock, Texas. She departed this life 1:10 A. M., November 19, 1972. She leaves to mourn her passing, a devoted husband, Mr. Patrick Allen; three sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Austin of Galveston, Miss Millie Mae Murphy and Mrs. Carrie Lee Phillips of Cedar Lake. Five brothers, Steve Murphy, Clyde Murphy of Cedar Lane, Sandy Murphy of Cedar Lake, Clark Murphy of Bay City and Woodrow Murphy of Galveston and one aunt, and a host of nieces nephews and friends.

Johnny Lee Allen

Funeral services for Johnny Lee Allen, 45, of Angleton, will be Friday, July 2, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Angleton.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery in Cedar Lake, [Matagorda County] Texas.

Mr. Allen died Monday, June 28, 2004, at his residence.

Leslie Charlene Amos
Sep 05, 1973 - Mar 13, 2019

Leslie Charlene (Williams) Amos was born in Galveston, Texas on September 5, 1975 to the late Lexie Charles Williams and Carolyn Francis (Peters) Williams. 

She graduated from Texas City High School in 1992 and later attended College of the Mainland Nursing School where she received an Associates Degree in Nursing. Employed as a Registered Nurse, she was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.

Leslie met and married Howard Kevin Amos, Sr. in 1994 and resided in LaMarque, TX. To this blessed union three children were born. In addition, three children were raised as their own. She was a hard working, loving wife, and devoted mother that always did her best to provide and care for her family.

She accepted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and became a member of Austin First Temple Church of God in Christ located in Hitchcock, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Savannah Harkless, Paula Williams, Brenda Jackson, and Bonita Murphy.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband of twenty four years, Howard Amos, Sr.; four children, Howard Amos, Jr., Anna Amos, Lexie Amos, LaTasha Dixon (stepdaughter); three children she raised as her own, Damica Amos (niece), Roshelle Thornton (niece), Ashreal Thomas (great niece ); one sister, Rotonda Harkless; three brothers, John Williams, Bobby Smith, Seautry Harkless; three grandchildren, Howard Amos, III, Marquail Burton, Suntera Burton; and a special friend, Barbara Rougely. Leslie will also be forever remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

As a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother, Leslie will always be remembered as the true heart of her family.

There will be a public visitation held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 10am with a chapel service to begin at 12pm located at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591.

Corine Durgan Anderson

Funeral service for Mrs. Corine Durgan Anderson, age 90, of Cedar Lake, will be held Saturday, June 10th, at 2:30 P. M. at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with Rev. Kenneth Bree officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 P. M. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, and Saturday from 1:30 til 2:30 P. M. at the church.

Mrs. Anderson was born November 26, 1904, to Will Durgan and Willie Ward Durgan, and died June 6, 1995, at Sweeny House in Sweeny, Texas.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Lou Moore of Bay City, and Mrs. Ella Mae Hawkins of Yoakum, and three sons, A. J. Urps of Texas City, Lester Urps and Eddie Urps of Cedar Lake; three daughters-in-law, Dian Urps of Texas City, Ann Uprs and Dorothy Urps of Cedar Lake; also three brothers, Mack Durgan of Galveston, James Durgan of Houston and A. J. Durgan of Palacios, and one aunt, Mrs. Lorena Martinez of Seguin. Also 40 grandchildren, a host of great-grands and great-great-grands, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers include Kip Urps, Darrel Urps, Roy Lester, Derriest Urps, A. J. Urps, Jr. and A. J. Urps, III.

Honorary pallbearers include Jessie Bess, Sr., Anthony Bess, Neal Bess, John L. Bess, Therman R. Williams, Rev. Herbert Hawkins and Robert L. Bess.

Mr. Sandy Anderson, Jr. was born August 27, 1906 to the union of Alice M. Anderson and Sandy Anderson, Sr. in Cedar Lake, Texas.

He was baptized at an early age, where he attended Bethlehem Christian Church. He married Aline Nichels, who preceded him in death. To this union 4 children were born.

He departed this life on Thursday, July 10, 1986 at 8:20 p. m.

Sandy, leaves to mourn: his present wife, Corine Anderson; Four daughters, Luberta Thomas, Alice Campbell, Diane Wade, Ruby Wilson and Betty Fields (a niece who was like a daughter); Three sisters, Florence Tone, Juanita Ward and Betty Woodard; Three brothers, Raymond, William and Rogers Anderson; 11 Grandchildren, 10 Great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.
