Phillip Woodard

Deacon Phillip Woodard, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Woodard, was born October 6, 1906, at Cedar Lake, Matagorda County, Texas. He attended public school and grew to manhood in the Cedar Lake and Sargent communities. He joined the Bethlehem Christian Church at an early age during the pastorate of Rev. Sam Brown.

He married Miss Phema Jones in 1928. To this union no children were born, but they reared two daughters from early childhood, Ethel L. Ward, and Barbara Jean Aikens.

He was ordained as a deacon of the Bethlehem Christian Church in 1951, and became Treasurer in 1964, serving in both capacities until his death.

He held membership in the Progressive Order of Pilgrims, Berean Sanctuary No. 64, in which he served as Worthy Inspirator, He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 272.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted wife, Mrs. Phema Woodard; two daughters, two sisters, six brothers, seven grandchildren, one aunt, one uncle; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Riley Lee “Pemp” Woodard

Funeral services for Riley Lee “Pemp” Woodard, 59, of Cedar Lake, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with the Rev. Larry Griggs, Sr., officiating.

Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

He died November 8, 2003 at his residence. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.

He is survived by: two brothers, William Thomas (Jeraldean), Anton, Texas, Elisha Thomas, Cedar Lake; four sisters, Carrie Edison, of Houston, Amanda Thomas, Emma Thomas, both of Cedar Lake, and Monique Armstrong (Odis), of Hungerford, Texas; one aunt, Elnora Williams, Brazoria; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Groves, Hollis Woodard, Thomas Bernard, Elery J. Alexander, Melvin Bonner, Johnny Roberson, Kenneth Woodard, Alphonso Perry, Bobby Smith and Andrew Thomas, Sr.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Rebecca Alexander; and brothers, Albert Smith Sr. and Horace Woodard, Sr.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2003, at the Dixon Funeral Home Chapel.

Robert J. Woodard

Bro. Robert J. Woodard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Woodard, was born July 18, 1900 in Cedar Lake, Matagorda County, Texas.

In 1909 he confessed Christ and was baptized by his grandfather, the late Rev. Henry Woodard, becoming a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas.

He grew up and was married to Miss Catherine Bonner who preceded him in death on May 14, 1939. To this union, one child was born. Later, he was married to Miss Henrietta Thompson James and remained faithful until death.

He reunited with the Bethlehem Christian Church on March 24, 1968. He was a member of the American Woodmen Camp No. 243.

He departed this life Sunday, January 24, 1971 at 5:25 in the afternoon.

He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted and loyal wife, Mrs. Henrietta Woodard; two daughters, Mrs. Laura Mae O'Neal of Galveston, Texas and Mrs. Amando Spring of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Mr. Lloyd Woodard of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Lemons of Cedar Lane, Texas; seven grandsons, one great granddaughter, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rosenbert “Bo” Woodard

Rosenbert "Bo" Woodard was born on April 8, 1920 to the late Mr. Cleveland Woodard and Matilda Merchant-Woodard, the first of nine children.

He grew up and attended public school in the Cedar Lake Community. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined the Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas.

He departed this life on Friday, December 1, 1989 at 8:55 a.m. at Bay Villa Nursing Home, Bay City, Texas.

He leaves behind many loving memories to his dear and devoted Mother, Mrs. Matilda Woodard of Cedar Lake, four sisters, Mrs. Maggie L. Wright of Brazoria, Mrs. Juanita Murphy and Mrs. Mamie L. Smith of Cedar Lake, and Mrs. Margaret L. Brown of Danciger, one brother, Cleveland Woodard Jr. of Hawkins Ranch, one foster brother, Everett T. Gee of Bay City, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Roy Lee Woodard
April 12, 1948 – March 20, 2017

On Monday, April 12, 1948 in Cedar Lake, Texas a baby boy named Roy Lee was born to Perry Woodard and Amanda Thomas Woodard.

Roy Lee attended public school and graduated from O. H. Herman High in Van Vleck, Texas. Roy Lee accepted Christ at an early age at Bethlehem Christian Church.

Roy Lee was a very loving and caring person. He aimed to help all that crossed his path. During his life journey, Roy Lee was an entrepreneur having his own R & D Landscaping Company and Val’s Hometown Cooking. Roy made sure that many of his little cousins and friends had a place of employment.

Roy Lee is preceded in death by his father, Perry Woodard; grandmothers, Mary Thomas and Helen Williams; grandfather Gussie Williams and many aunts and uncles.

Roy leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Valerie Woodard; one son, Danny Woodard (Chelci); one daughter, Johnesha Thomas; mother, Amanda Thomas; two godsons, Roy Lee Thomas and Jarvis Barnes; two grandchildren, Samantha Goodwin and Jaden Lewis; mother-in-law, Addie Clara Smith; seven sisters-in-law, Maudester Hall (Michael), Yvonne Jackson (Robert), Velia Smith, Patricia Williams, Flora Williams, Gloria Williams and Annette Williams; brothers-in-law, George Woodard and Ronnie Woodard; two aunts, Emma Thomas and Betty Woodard; one uncle, William Thomas; a special cousin, Gladys Burnett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sandy Woodard
March 15, 1893 - March 14, 1968

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Woodard a son on March 15, 1893 whom they named Sandy Woodard.

He grew up in the community of Cedar Lake, Texas. At an early age he was baptized into the Bethlehem Christian Church.

In the year of _____ he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Brown. To this union seven children were born. In later life he united with Mrs. Bessie Bivens and to this union one daughter was born.

He departed this life March 9, 1968 at the Alvin Memorial Hospital.

He leaves to mourn his passing a wife, eight children, four brothers, two sisters, 27 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Thomas “Tommy” Woodard

Funeral services for the late Thomas “Tommy” Woodard will be held Saturday, April 29, 1995 at 2 P. M. at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Tx. where the Rev. K. W. Bree is pastor.

Tommy was the son of the late Frankie Gee. He leaves to mourn two sisters, Lillie Bernard and Rebecca Austin, one stepsister, Ola Mae Bell all of Cedar Lake, two brothers, George Gee of Caldwell, Texas, Willie Austin of Houston, four daughters, Betty Field of Brazoria, Lola Cooper, Lillie and Alberta of Houston, stepmother Emma Woodard of Freeport and Stella Gee of Cedar Lake. Many loved ones of Cedar Lake and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 in Harris County. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes. He loved baseball and softball games. He graduated in 1968 from O.H. Herman High School in Van Vleck, Texas. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Maggie Lee “Gray” Wright

Funeral services for Maggie Lee “Gray” Wright, 76, of Brazoria will be at 11 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake with the Rev. K. W. Bree officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 9 p. m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel and from 10 – 11 a. m. at the church. A wake will be held from 7 – 8 p. m. on Friday at the chapel.

Mrs. Wright died on Oct. 2, 1999 at the Hospice of the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Verna Wright, Jr. of Alvin, Charlie and JoAnn Wright of Houston. Leonard and Angela Wright of Missouri City, and Richard and Sheila Wright of Brazoria; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sophia Wright Davis and husband Hurbert of Lake Jackson, Carrie Wright Robertson and husband Phil of Angleton; one step-daughter, G. Louise Crear and husband Roy of LaMarque; one grandson that she reared, Steven Franklin of Brazoria; one brother, Cleveland Woodard, Jr. of Hawkinsville; three sisters, Juanita Murphy, Mamie Smith and husband Robert of Cedar Lake, and Margaret Brown of Danciger; a foster brother, Everett T. Gee and wife Margaret of Bay City; two sisters-in-law, Laura Brown of Houston and Louisiana Johnson of Brazoria; four brothers-in-law, Mark Wright, Willie B. Eddie Faye Woodard Wyche

January 11, 1954 - October 28, 2014

On January I I, 1954 God graciously blessed Ernestine and Eddie Woodard Jr. with a beautiful daughter who they named Eddie Faye. Eddie Faye grew up in the Cedar Lake community where she was baptized at the Bethlehem Christian Church by the late Rev. Lloyd Brown. Eddie Faye was a devoted and faithful member throughout her life journey. She deeply loved her church and was an ardent supporter of her pastor, Rev. K. W. Bree. She also steadfastly encouraged the youth of the congregation and community to greater achievement in their lives.

Eddie Faye attended public school in Van Vleck graduating from Van Vleck High School in 1972. Eddie Faye had a pleasant personality and was a friend to everyone she knew.

Eddie Faye joyfully married Johnnie Roy Wyche on August 21, 1976. God blessed this union with a strong son who they named Corey. Corey was the joy of her life and she constantly showered him with great affection and care.

Eddie Faye was employed with Intermedics for over 24 years. She will affectionately be remembered by many as a friendly person with a gentle smile and kind heart.

Eddie Faye's memory will forever be cherished by her loving husband Johnny Roy Wyche, her devoted son Corey Wyche, both of Cedar Lane; grandson Michael Lawrence of Bay City; two godchildren: LaKisha Woodard of Bay City and Traveon Wyche; two sisters: Marquetta Woodard of Brazoria, and Wanda Floyd (Rev. A. Jearleen Wyche

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wyche, Jr., on July 23, 1953, In Cedar Lake, Texas, a baby girl named, Jearleen.

She attended Public School in Brazoria and West Columbia, Texas. Then she attended Brazoria Junior College for two years.

She confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Lloyd Brown, later she united with First St. Emanuel Baptist Church, Freeport, Texas, and later she re-united with Bethlehem Christian Church where she served faithfully until death.

She departed this life on April 19, 1975 at 10:00 A. M. in Diagnostic Hospital, Houston, Texas.

She leaves to mourn her passing, Mother, Mrs. Cora Sibley, step-father, Phelp Sibley of Cedar Lake, Father, Ross Wyche, Jr. of Houston, sister, Mrs. Sarah Fields of Brazoria and brother, Leroy Brown of Dallas.

Funeral services for Dave Young, 53, of Pearland, formerly of Cedar Lake, were held at 11 a. m. Saturday March 27, 2004 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Bree officiating.

He died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and was under watchful care at Windsor Village in Houston.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 988.

He is survived by: his wife, Joyce Young of Pearland; son, Everrett M. Evelyn Marie Young

She was born in Cedar Lake on July 19, 1945 to John Young, Jr. and Lillie B. Woodard Young, and passed away Friday, Jan. 30 in Houston.

Survivors include a son, Mark Anthony Young and three sisters, Dorothy, Lillie and Ollie, all of Houston. Also eight brothers, Dave of Pearland, Robert Lee and Joe, both of Cedar Lane, Ralph, Richard and Larry, all of Cedar Lake, John III and Jimmie, both of Houston.

She also leaves two grandchildren, Marka and Markesa; four aunts, Mrs. Carrie Green of Cedar Lane, Mrs. Mary Wilson, Mrs. Isabella Lewis, and Mrs. Millie Pierce, all of Houston; and three uncles, Roy Bouldin, and Dave Young (& Naomi), all of Bay City, and Willard Young of Houston. Also a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a family of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, J. D.

Homegoing Celebration of Life for Ollie Mae Young, age 78 of Houston formerly of Cedar Lake, Texas will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Bethlehem Christian Church, 353 CR 279, Bay City, Texas 77414 (Cedar Lake Community) where Rev. K. W. Bree is Pastor and Eulogist.  Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery ~ Cedar Lake.

Visitation will also be on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. 

Ollie was born on July 25, 1944 in Bay City, Texas to the parentage of John Young, Jr. and Lillie B. Woodard Young and passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 surrounded by family.

Funeral services for Robert Lee Young, 67, of Bay City, will be Saturday, March 24, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake with the Rev. Kenneth Bree, Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

He died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He is survived by: his wife, Brenda Young, of Bay City; three daughters, Ina Hasenberg and Eric of San Bernardino, Calif., Nicole Sifford and Monical Young both of Lake Jackson; six brothers, Richard Woodard of Cedar Lake, John Young III and Shirley of Houston, Joe Young and Delia of Cedar Lane, Jimmie Young and Latifah of Houston, Dave Young and Joyce of Pearland, Larry Young and Shelida of Brazoria; three sisters, Dorothy Pharms, Ollie Young, and Lillie B. Young all of Houston, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Jonathon Young, Jaquail Young, Andre Young, Gregory Young, Roland Woodard, Bryan Mack, Jeremy Moore, and Vincent James, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Bethlehem Christian Church, Richard Woodard, John Young, III, Joe Young, Jimmie Young, Dave Young, Larry Young, Yohance Bree.

Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2001, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. only at the Church. There will be no viewing afterwards.
