Bishop F. Dickey

Autopsy Asked In Jail Death of Prisoner

Sheriff J. B. (Jack) Cole said this morning that a prisoner in the Matagorda County Jail took his own life Monday night. Cole said the incident occurred around 10:00 PM. Justice of the Peace D. B. Dickey was placed in the jail only Friday on a drunk charge, according to Cole. The sheriff said one of the prisoners in the jail found Dickey’s body and called for radio dispatcher Elmer Cornett, who was on duty at the time. Cornett then called for the sheriff and other units of the department and units from the Bay City Police Department, Cole stated. Sheriff Cole said Dickey was 47 years of age and gave his address as 407 Ave. H in Bay City. Dickey slashed his wrist using a “double-edged razor blade,” the sheriff said.

Funeral services for Dickey were held this afternoon at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.
