Arthur Franz

Arthur Franz Accidentally Kills Self With Shot Gun
410 Gauge Double Barrl Discharges As Young Man Lifts Gun From Car At Home
Had Been Squirrel Hunting

Arthur Franz, age 31, accidentally killed himself this morning about10:30 when his gun, a 410 gauge double barrel shot gun, discharged as he pulled it from the car. The load struck the young man in t chest killing him instantly. He had just returned from a squirrel hunt and had driven his car in his back yard to unload it and to clean the two squirrels he had killed. He lived with his mother, Mrs. N. J. Franz, owner of the Franz Hotel on Avenue F near the Southern Pacific depot.

According to G. H. Brown, who was a witness of the accident, the young man pulled his gun out of the car by grabbing hold of the barrel. He heard the report, turned and saw Arthur fall. He ran to him and attempted to render aid but the full load of the discharge had struck him in the left breast, right at the heart.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. N. J. Franz and one brother, Leroy.

Taylor Bros. are in charge of the arrangements. Burial announcements have not been made yet.

Silas Franz

Death of Silas E. Franz
The End Follows a Brief Illness and Is Said to Have Been Due to Some Form of Poison

Silas E. Franz died at an early hour this morning after an illness of less than twelve hours duration.  He went out for an outing yesterday with his family, and returned home in the evening, a little out of sorts, but to all appearances not at all seriously ill. During the night he grew worse, and his wife suggested that a physician be called, to which he protested. Early this morning his brother, W. C. Franz, was called in, and at once realizing the serious condition of the sick man, he at once summoned a physician. Death came almost as the doctor entered the room, and before any member of the family save the brother realized that the head of the household was at all seriously ill.

It is stated that Dr. Brooks, who was the attending physician, attributes the death to poisoning, though what particular poison was taken is not given out.

The funeral will take place tomorrow morning, with interment in Cedarvale cemetery.

Deceased was 41 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by a widow and three children, besides several brothers and sisters, all of whom have the sympathy of their friends in their bereavement.
