Graveside services for Jones Gayle Davis, 87, of Van Vleck are scheduled for 11:30 a. m. today at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City with layman Cliff Hill and eulogist Jack G. Neal officiating.

Mr. Davis was born April 15, 1906 in San Gabriel to John Wilfred and Lillian C. Jones Davis and died Dec. 12, 1993 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont.

He served in the U. S. Army after World War I and lived in the Bay City area most of his adult life. He operated several movie theaters and then entered the grass farming business, retiring several years ago to devote his full attention to investments.

Survivors include two sons, Gayle L. Neal of Vidor and Jack G. Neal of Dallas; a sister, Marybelle Meador of Houston; a niece, Lois Hill; a nephew, J. R. Davis; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; eight great-nieces and nephews; nine great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew.

Funeral services for Louise Davis, 74, of Ashwood will be held 2 p. m. Thursday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with Monsignor James Brunner officiating. Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 22, 1919 in Crowley, La. to Adolph and Lucille Hebert LeBlanc and died March 8, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Catholic church and a resident of Ashwood for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, James Gale “J. G.” of Ashwood; two sisters, Anita K. Schicke of Palacios and Inez Gautreaux of Crowley, La.; and a sister-in-law, Hilda LeBlanc of Crowley, La.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Annie Dunbar

Funeral services for Annie Dunbar, 92, of Bay City, will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Leediker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Dunbar was born Nov. 5, 1892, in Texas, and died at 11:05 p. m. April 27, 1985, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

A life-long resident of Matagorda County, she was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Nellie Woods of Bay City and Patsy Wright of San Carlos, Calif.; two sons, Edgar Lloyd Dunbar of Santa Cruze, Calif., and Norbert Keith Dunbar of Rosenberg; four sisters, Tessie Duderstadt, Margaret Pickel and Amanda Raymond, all of Bay City, and Mollie Belle Miller of Wharton; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Ronald Dunbar, Steve Dunbar, Robert Huffman, Michael Huffman Jr., Kenneth Elliott and Michael Huffman Sr. Honorary pallbearers include Bob Gray and Earl Holloway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar, who died in January 1973; a son, Richard Raymond Dunbar; a daughter, Dorothy Guzzo; a step-brother, Phillip Yeamans; and a step-sister, Pearl Landrum.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Joe Freeman, Long Time Postal Employee, Dies

Mr. Joe H. Freeman, 64, an employee at the Bay City postoffice for almost four decades, died Saturday, September 29, following a long siege of ill health.

He had been a resident in Bay City for 39 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Woodmen of the World.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances Edmonson of Bay City and Mrs. W. E. Pry of Houston; two sons Joseph H. of Ft. Worth and Bruce of Bay City.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren; two brothers, Henry T. of Sargent and Ernest T. of Bay City.

Funeral services were held from the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 3:30 with Rev. W. W. Conerly of the First Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Otis Bickham, Joe Milner, Jack Spurgeon, Ed Anderson, George Yeager and Allen Hoppe. The burial services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge.

J. F. Frieze, age 70 years, 9 months and 29 days passed away at his home in Markham last night at 7:25, where he had made his home for the past three years.

Burial services will be held from the Walker-Matchett funeral home at 3:30 this afternoon. Rev. Metcalf of Palacios in charge of the religious service. Burial in Cedarvale cemetery.

Mrs. Nancy E. Frieze, age 65 years, 7 months and 2 days, passed away yesterday morning at 11:00 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. R. Bankhead of Markham, Texas.

 

Mrs. Frieze is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. H. C. Keith and Mrs. H. R. Bankhead; three sons, M. F., J. R., and J. B.; two sisters, Mrs. John Day of Edgar, Texas, and Mrs. Delia Schultz of Rockport, Texas.

 

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 PM, with Rev. R. E. Black of Markham officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Matchett Funeral Home.

Funeral Services For Thomas A. Fulcher Were Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Thomas A. Fulcher of Bay City were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. R. O. Fincher of the Temple Baptist Church officiating assisted by Rev. Norman Fry of the Collegeport Baptist church.

Mr. Fulcher died Sunday at his home in Bay City at the age of 78 years 7 months and 21 days. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maud Fulcher; three daughters, Mrs. Hester Hendrix and Mrs. Tom Hale, Bay City and Mrs. Leo Duffy, Collegeport; one son, J. H. Fulcher of Baytown. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Stella Cast of Palacios; two brothers, Pete Fulcher of Corpus Christi and Howard Fulcher of San Gabriel and twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Acting pallbearers were eight grandsons, J. W. Shows, George Hendrix, Bill Hendrix, Tommy Hale, I. Z. Dykes, Bill Dennis, James Fulcher and Tommy Swinford.

Fulcher Rites Held Sunday - Maude Purvis Fulcher

Funeral rites for Mrs. Maude Purvis Fulcher, 82, were held Sunday afternoon from the drawing room of the Bay City Funeral Home. Mrs. Fulcher, born Nov. 28, 1881 in Tupelo, Miss. had lived in Bay City, 2407 7th Street, for the past 10 years after moving here from Collegeport. She had been a member of the Baptist Church since the age of 14.

Rev. Tommy Nesbitt of Calvary Baptist Church officiated at the services and interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Four children survive, Mrs. Hester Hendrix and Mrs. Tom Hale Sr. of Bay City, Mrs. Leo Duffy of El Campo and J. H. Fulcher of Baytown; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers, all grandsons, were G. R. Hendrix, Billy Hendrix, Tommy Hale, I. Z. Dykes, James Fulcher, Buford Fulcher. Honorary pallbearers, J. W. Shows, Bill Dennis, Tommy Swinford, John Wayne Shows, Skippy Sutton, Russell Solas.

Mary L. Garrison, 93, of Ganado, died March 9, 2000 at Care Inn Nursing Home in Ganado. She was born Jan. 28, 1907 in Schulenburg to the late Frank John and Amalie Orsak Sedlacek.

Mrs. Garrison was a resident of Ganado the past 9 years and a former longtime resident of Bay City. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, KJZT No. 100, Our Lady of Snow and the Legion of Mary. For many years she was a seamstress and cashier at Rosenswigs of Bay City.

Survivors include: sister and brother-in-law, Lillie and Arnold Bothe of Gonado; three nieces, Grace Marie McDonald of Tulsa, Ok., Barbara Ann Steen of Conroe, and Mary Ellen Story of Mt. Vernon, Texas; and three nephews, Freddie Foeh of Hawkins, Bobby Bothe of Ganado; and John Sovinski of Houston.

She was preceded in death by: her husband's William Henry Hatchett and John Hardeman Garrison; two sisters, Emma Foeh and Eleanora Sovinski; five brothers, George, Robert, Lawrence, Raymond and Joseph Sedlacek.

A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel and a funeral mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Internment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for E. Leon Gentry, 70, of Bay City will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family received friends at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p. m.

Mr. Gentry died Feb. 9 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. He was born Nov. 12, 1928 in Bay City to the late Elvin Lee and Priscilla Jane Arnold Gentry. He was a very active member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, a life long resident of Bay City, and the owner of Gentry Motor Parts, Inc. in Bay City, West Columbia, Angleton, Freeport and Boling. He was also a 32 degree mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 864 A. F. and A. M., a member of Gulf Coast Shrine Club and Jesters Club of Houston.

Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Agnes Miller Gentry of Bay City; daughters and son-in-law, Priscilla Lee Gentry Obermeyer of Branson, Mo. and Liz Gentry Embrey and husband Lynn of Bellaire, TX; son and daughter-in-law, E. L. “Butch” and Sherre Gentry, Jr. of Lake Jackson; sister, Betty Jane Callaway of Bay City; grandchildren, Carolyn Pauline Volkmer of Huntsville, Mary Elizabeth Brink and husband Bob of Aurora, Colo., Theresa Jane Hoff and husband Tim of Littleton, Colo. and Jennifer Gentry of College Station; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marion S. Gentry.

Pallbearers will be Robert Toney, Bob Stewart, Russell Matthes, Bill Roberts, Lupe Trevino and Tom Uher.

Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Fisherman Group of First Presbyterian Church; Members of the Jesters Club, Houston and the Shriners.

Mary Miller Gentry, 80, of Bay City, passes away Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

She was born October 21, 1928 in Bay City to C. G. Miller Sr. and Ada Lee Hoffman Miller. She was a lifelong resident of Bay City, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by: her daughters, Priscilla Lee Gentry of Bay City and Liz Gentry of Bellaire; a son, Leon Gentry Jr. and wife Sherre of Lake Jackson; her sisters, Doris Rudder of Groesbeck, Beatrice Stewart of Salado and Barbara Toney of Van Vleck; a brother, C. G. Miller, Jr. of Dallas; by four grandchildren, Carolyn Davis, Mary Brink, Theresa Hoff and Jennifer Cummings; and by twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; by her husband, E. Leon Gentry, Sr.; a sister, Lois Mason; and a brother, Elroy Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with the Rev. Lacy Sellars, Jr. of Bellaire Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Funeral Services Held Sunday For Paul Gier

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock for Paul Gier, 9, who died in the John Sealy Hospital at Galveston Saturday morning at 7 o’clock.

Paul had been ill two months, caused from a bone injury after jumping off a building.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Stella Rhodes; a brother, William Gier, and one sister, Evelyn Ruth Gier.

The Rev. R. E. Black officiated at the funeral services with Walker-Matchett in charge of the funeral arrangements. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery.
