Winnie Mae Holton Bean, 92, of Bay City died December 27, 2003 at her residence. She was born August 5, 1911 in Lee Co. TX to the late John Franklin and Ida Pearl Pierce Holton. Mrs. Bean was a member of the Golden Ave. Baptist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1947.

Survivors include: daughter: Carolyn Smith of Bay City; son & daughter-in-law: Ronnie and Mary Bean of Rosenberg; 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Hampton & Melissa Smith both of Bay City, Ray Bean & wife Patty of Damon, Randy Bean & wife Sara of Needville, Tammy Gonzales & husband Jesse of Fulshear, Pam Clayton, and Jeff Macek & wife Tiffany all of Rosenberg; 3 great-grandchildren: Hunter & Macie Bean, and Brandi Bermudes; special friend Dwain Knight and devoted care giver Dorothy Walton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald C. Bean; sisters: Alma Gibson, Idell Holloway, Emmie Rodgers, & Jewell Purser; also brothers: John, Willis, & Sam Holton.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray & Randy Bean, Marshall Holloway, Greg May, Jeff Macek, and Buddy Kersh.

Ronald Chester Bean

Funeral services for Ronald Chester Bean, 86, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m., Nov. 23 in the Chapel of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Ronald Bean passed away Nov. 21 at Matagorda General Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1910 in Durant, Okla. to John William and Eva Jones Bean. In October of 1940 he entered the U. S. Army at Camp McCoy Wisconsin. Mr. Bean was a WWII Veteran serving in the 2nd Infantry and received his discharge at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

Mr. Bean holds the Purple Heart for wounds received in action at Brest, France and Leipzig, Germany. He was also the recipient of the Bronze Star and the European Theater of Operations ribbon with five campaign stars. He was a life member of the V. F. W. Post 2438.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Winnie Holton Bean of Bay City; son, Ronnie Bean of Rosenberg; daughter, Carolyn Smith of Bay City; two granddaughters, Melissa Smith of Bay City and Jennifer Knight and her husband Dwain also of Bay City; two grandsons, Randy Bean of Damon and Ray Bean and his wife Patty Bean also of Damon. Two very special friends, Mike Lankston and Mary Macek. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Williams and brother, John W. Bean Jr.

Pallbearers include Gayle Holton, Steve Holton, Neil Holloway, Marshall Holloway, Buddy Kersh and Barnie Mason Jr.

Leona Schultz Blackman

Leona Schultz Blackman, 88, of Houston, died May 5, 2000 at Specialty Hospital in Webster, Texas. She was born June 15, 1911 in Moulton, Texas to the late Otto and Annie Ulman Schultz. Mrs. Blackman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City, a former resident of Bay City, and had been a resident of Houston for the past two and a half years.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Russell of Houston; and sister-in-law, Corene Schultz of Kingsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blackman; one sister; and three brothers.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Funeral services for William Blackman, 77, of Bay City will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Bay City Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Blackman was born Sept. 12, 1909, in Milano, Milam County, Texas and died Dec. 29, 1986, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Blackman of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Russell of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

William Hubert Boeker Jr.
(June 10, 1922 - November 15, 2012)

William “Bill” Boeker, Jr., 90, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012. Bill was born on June 10, 1922 in Virginia, Illinois to the late William Hubert and Carolyn Boeker Sr. Bill graduated from Bay City High School in 1941. Bill served his country during WWll in the Army Air Corp. He married Cleora Edwards in Rapid City, South Dakota. They moved to Bay City where Bill started out as a rice farmer. He then became an electrician where he and Cleora opened Boeker’s Radio and TV in 1957. He was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bay City. He was an honorary lifetime president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Bill also worked with the Rice Belt Kiwanis Club. Bill and Cleora made numerous missionary trips to Guatemala, Mexico and one trip to Africa.

Bill is survived by his loving family, sons, John Hubert Boeker & wife Carol, William Charles Boeker & Terri, Thomas Allen Boeker & wife Ingrid and Robert Louis Boeker & wife Sandra; grandchildren, Jason, John David, Justin, Jennen, Jennifer, Katherine Rose, William H. lll, Robin Michele, & Robert Edwin; great-grandchildren, Caiden, Awestin, Makayla, Sophia, Krysten, Sampson, Jacob, Wyatt & Grayson. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife Cleora Evelyn Boeker and one granddaughter Kristen Lee Boeker.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 19, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with Dr. Mark Stoub officiating. Military graveside honors will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Cleora Evelyn Boeker, 89, of Bay City passed away July 5, 2012. She was born August 13, 1922 in Ord, NE to the late John Edwards and Bertha Meese Edwards. She worked along with her husband at Boeker TV & Electronics for many years.

Survivors include her husband William Hubert Boeker, Jr. of Bay City; sons John Hubert & Carol Boeker of Las Vegas, William Charles & Terri Boeker of Bay City, Thomas Allen & Ingrid Boeker of Flint, TX & Robert Louis Boeker of Bay City; sisters Eulalia Edwards of Nebraska & Bernardine Edwards of California; brother Melvin “Bud” Edwards of Nebraska; grandchildren Jason, John David, Justin, Jennen, Jennifer, Katherine Rose, William H. Louise Collida

Louise Collida, 82, of Bay City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24 at Bay Villa Nursing Center. She was born on August 21, 1919 in Beaumont, Texas to parents John O. and Nannie Thompson Collier.

She was a former secretary at Bay City Junior High School and later served as secretary for former Matagorda County Sheriff Edge Graham and Sam Hurta. She was a longtime and active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Bay City, where she served in the Daughters of the King and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Steve Collida, and a sister, Jimmy Sue Scott.

She is survived by: a son and a daughter-in-law, Joe, Sr. and Betty Collida of Pearisburgh, Virginia; a daughter and son-in-law, Steve Ann and Lawrence Kalinec of Dallas, Texas; a brother-in-law, Wallace Scott of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren, Kellie Morris, Joe Collida, Jr., Steve Collida and Mark Kalinec; and great-grandchildren, Ashley Collida, Scott Collida, Carly Collida, Abby Collida and Jacob Morris; and by a number of nieces and nephews and her church family at St. Mark's.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Lawrence Guinn officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers. She was born February 8, 1915 to Vincent and Marie Salas. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who touched so many lives. Mrs. Jarrell was born Dec. 11, 1897 in Freestone County and died May 1, 1993 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bay City and a resident of Bay City since 1908.

Fred Law – Long Time Farmer In Collegeport Dies At Age 76

Lifelong Collegeport resident Fred R. Law died Tuesday at the Matagorda General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Law was born in Matagorda and in 1931 joined his parents and two brothers in the rice farming industry in Collegeport. In 1934 he married the former Beryl Bell on Christmas Eve and the couple moved to Brazoria County to farm for several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Law moved back to Collegeport in 1936 and set up a permanent residence where he continued farming and it was here the couple raised their three children.

Fred Law was known throughout the county all his life as a rice farmer from Collegeport and although he did not join various organizations he did devote much time to his family and the farming industry.

In 1968 Law retired from farming due to ill health and he and his wife moved to Bay City in June two years ago.

Funeral services will be held May 5 at 2 p. m. at the First Baptist Church.

Fred R. Law, 76, a resident of Bay City died May 2 at the Matagorda General Hospital. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport was a life resident of Matagorda County, and was a retired rice farmer. Survivors include wife, Mrs. Beryl Bell Law of Bay City; daughter, Mrs. Fred Huitt of Palacios; two sons Fred R. Law Jr. and Russell Law of Bay City; two brothers, Francis and Galen Savage of Bay City; 9 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held May 5 at 2 p. m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. D. Baker and E. Leon Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery with pallbearers being Harley S. Savage, Francis Savage Jr., Galen E. Mrs. Law was born August 21, 1905, in Bay City to Charles Russell and Mary Eliza Bell, and died June 18, 1992, at Matagorda General Hospital. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifelong resident of Matagorda County.

 

Mrs. Law taught school in Matagorda County and was a member of the Matagorda County Retired Teachers Association. She was an active member of the Matagorda County Federation Home Demonstration Club, a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Collegeport and the Collegeport Women’s Club, the Plus Ultra Class at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City and the Bay City Book Review Club.

 

Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Fred Huitt of Palacios; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred R. Jr. and Bonnie Law and Russell and Nancy Law of Bay City; two sisters, Daisy Bell of Bay City and Marylee Winn of Uvalde; grandchildren, Hutch Huitt of Austin, Hank Huitt of Palacios, Jay Huitt of Bay City, Vicki Jan of Buda, Fred H. Law of Bay City, Allen Law of Paradise, Robin Law of Huntsville, Karen Law and Debra Law of Bay City and Paige Munson of San Marcos; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers will be Hart Soli, John Huebner, John Merck, Thomas Holsworth, Gus Franzen and Gerald Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lee Jan, Allen Law, Hutch Huitt, Jay Huitt, Fred H. Law and Hank Huitt.

 

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred R. Law, Sr. in 1978 and by a son, Stewart Woodward Law.

Stewart Woodard Law

April 4, 1945 – April 11, 1945

 

Stewart Woodard Law, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Law of Collegeport, died Wednesday, April 11, at 1:55 AM in Bay City. He was seven days of age.

 

Survivors are his parents, two brothers, Frederick and James Russell, and one sister, Constance Merle, all of Collegeport.

 

Rev. Aubrey C. Maxted officiated at the funeral rites Wednesday afternoon at 5:00, with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.
